Environmental Technician I

MAJOR FUNCTION
Performs drainage maintenance activities with All-Terrain Walking Excavator.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES
Duties include performance of various off-road equipment operations and labor tasks required to perform drainage maintenance operating one or more of the following:
All-Terrain Walking Excavator (ATE) Track-hoe Tractor w/bush-hog Transport
Hydro-seeder Boom Mounted Hydraulic Mower, Slope Mower
• Operates other equipment not listed above as required. Duties include utility location verification and equipment transport.
• Performs routine daily equipment maintenance.
• Digs and maintains drainage ditches and canals so that water flows freely within them to the point of discharge.
• Ensure that proper sediment and erosion control measures are in place during maintenance operations.
• Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
• Knowledge of the methods, equipment, operating and safety rules of drainage maintenance operations.
• Knowledge of the types of equipment used in drainage maintenance operations.

• Knowledge of basic map reading techniques.
• Able to understand, interpret and effectively carry out written or oral instructions.
• Able to use independent judgment.
• Able to complete work activity forms.
• Able to see, hear sounds at a normal level, ambulate independently, bend, stoop, sit and stand.
• Able to drive from work site to work site.
• Able to use multi-hand and/or foot controls.
• Able to perform manual labor in all weather conditions.
• Able to lift equipment weighing up to forty-five (45) pounds.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Must have a minimum of one (1) year of experience in the operation and routine maintenance of heavy or off-road equipment.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to secure a valid Florida Commercial Class "A" driver's license at the time of employment within this classification.
• A comparable amount of related training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
• This full-time position is based in Polk County, Florida. Flexibility may be required to support emergencies outside of regular business hours.

 

Environmental Technician II

MAJOR FUNCTION
Performs drainage maintenance activities with All-Terrain Walking Excavator.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES
Duties include performance of various off-road equipment operations, and labor tasks required to perform drainage maintenance operating one or more of the following types of equipment at least 50% of work effort:
All-Terrain Walking Excavator (ATE) Track-hoe Tractor w/bush-hog Transport
Hydro-seeder Boom Mounted Hydraulic Mower, Slope Mower
• Operates other equipment not listed above as required.
• Duties include job oversight, utility location verification and scheduling of equipment transport.
• Performs routine daily equipment maintenance. Digs and maintains drainage ditches and canals so that water flows freely within them to the point of discharge.
• Ensures that utility locates are performed prior to performing excavation or digging operations.
• Ensures that proper sediment and erosion control measures are in place during maintenance operations.
• Performs related duties as required.

• Must have a minimum of two (2) years of experience in major work in excavation and operation of heavy or off-road equipment.
• Must possess within six (6) months of employment a Florida Stormwater, Erosion, and Sedimentation Control Inspector Certificate.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to secure a valid Florida Commercial Class "A" driver's license at the time of employment within this classification.
• A comparable amount of related training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Environmental Technician III

MAJOR FUNCTION
Performs drainage maintenance activities with All-Terrain Walking Excavator.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES
Duties include performance of various off-road equipment operations, and labor tasks required to perform drainage maintenance operating one or more of the following types of equipment at least 50% of work effort:
All-Terrain Walking Excavator (ATE) Track-hoe Tractor w/bush-hog Transport
Hydro-seeder Boom Mounted Hydraulic Mower, Slope Mower
• Operates other equipment not listed above as required.
• Duties include job oversight, utility location verification and scheduling of equipment transport.
• Performs routine daily equipment maintenance.
• Digs and maintains drainage ditches and canals so that water flows freely within them to the point of discharge.
• Ensures that utility locates are performed prior to performing excavation or digging operations.
• Ensures that proper sediment and erosion control measures are in place during maintenance operations.
• Trains other ATE Operators in the proper operation of All-Terrain Walking Excavators.
• May be assigned the most challenging off road drainage projects for completion.
• Performs related duties as required.

• Knowledge of the methods, equipment, operating and safety rules of drainage maintenance operations.
• Knowledge of the types of equipment used in drainage maintenance operations.
• Knowledge of basic map reading techniques.
• Able to understand, interpret and effectively carry out written or oral instructions.
• Able to use independent judgment and must work with a minimum of supervision.
• May act as lead worker.
• Able to complete work activity forms.
• Able to see, hear sounds at a normal level, ambulate independently, bend, stoop, sit and stand.
• Able to drive from work site to work site.
• Able to use multi-hand and/or foot controls.
• Able to perform manual labor in all weather conditions.
• Able to lift up to forty-five (45) pounds.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Must have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in the operation of heavy or off-road equipment, including at least two (2) years of experience operating All-Terrain Walking Excavators.
