Job Summary

The Environmental Engineer ensures total multimedia regulatory compliance for a manufacturing facility. This role directly manages programs across air, hazardous waste (RCRA), water pollution (SPCC), and industrial wastewater discharge.

Key Responsibilities

Air Quality Compliance

  • Permit Management: Maintain and renew minor source air permits.
  • Emissions Tracking: Calculate monthly and annual VOC/HAP emissions.
  • Reporting: Submit accurate annual emissions inventories to state agencies.
  • Exemptions: Document and defend categorical permit exemptions.

Waste Management (RCRA)

  • Waste Characterization: Profile hazardous, non-hazardous, and universal wastes.
  • Manifest Tracking: Manage e-Manifest workflows from generation to disposal.
  • Inspections: Conduct weekly satellite and 90/180-day storage area audits.
  • Training: Lead annual RCRA refresher training for plant personnel.

Water & Spill Prevention (SPCC & Wastewater)

  • SPCC Oversight: Maintain, review, and update the facility SPCC plan.
  • Integrity Testing: Coordinate periodic inspections for oil storage tanks.
  • Wastewater Monitoring: Sample industrial effluent to meet permit limits.
  • DMR Submission: File monthly Discharge Monitoring Reports via NetDMR.

General EHS Support

  • Agency Audits: Serve as the primary contact for regulatory inspectors.
  • Corrective Actions: Root-cause environmental near-misses and deviations.
  • Sustainability: Track corporate metrics for water, waste, and carbon reduction.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Chemical, or Civil Engineering.
  • Experience: 3–5 years of environmental compliance in a manufacturing plant.
  • Certifications: CHMM, REM, or FE/PE registration is highly preferred.
  • Skills: Expert proficiency with EPA Central Data Exchange (CDX) systems.
