  • You will serve as a Engineering Technician (Electrical) in the Engineering Department (Code 200), HM and E Division (Code 200HME), Electrical Support Branch in the Southeast Regional Maintenance Center (SERMC).
  • You will inspect and assess discrepancies for Total Ship Readiness Assessments (TSRA) during a formal assessment period.
  • You will perform regular, scheduled inspections and assessments as part of an INSURV team and for Integrated Class Maintenance Plan (ICMP) inspections to provide formal written reports on findings, discrepancies and repair recommendations.
  • You will serve as Fleet Technical Assistance (FTA) on USN ships.
  • You will provide technical assistance on problems beyond the capability of Intermediate Maintenance Level Activities (IMAs), repair activities and Alteration Installations Teams (AITs) to diagnose and correct.
  • You will investigate technical problems for ship maintenance availability support that will require resolution of new installation problems and designation of new testing requirements to suit Navy technical standards.
  • You will train ship's force personnel in the proper use, maintenance and repair of USN ship cognizant systems and components.
  • You will use excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • You will use Microsoft Office software for communication and documentation.

This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Several vacancies may be filled. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments. The work regularly involves frequent exposure to hazardous electrical voltages; large rotating machinery elements; electromagnetic radiation from high powered transmitters; nuclear radiation in and around machinery spaces aboard nuclear powered ships; explosive, flammable or incendiary materials; work inside boilers, turbines, condensers, etc., and entering enclosed spaces below the ship's water line (sonar domes, tanks, etc.). Work may require incumbent to be subjected to adverse environmental conditions while on board ship such as extreme hot and cold, and excessive humidity, noise, and airborne particles (such as smoke, industrial debris, etc.). The work is normally required aboard U.S. and foreign naval ships at berths, at anchor or at buoys within the harbor. On some occasions and with short notice, there will be requirements to perform temporary additional duty at sea on naval ships and/or at naval or private shipyards located throughout the world (including combat zones) utilizing government as well as commercial aircraft. Helicopters and aircraft (COD) flights are utilized for transfer to/from ships at sea. High line transfer from ship to ship may be occasionally required. There are also requirements to conduct surface vessel/submarine at-sea trials and evaluations.
