The overall function of this position is to assist the Engineer 6 (Project Engineer) position. The incumbent will assist with contract administration, processing of change orders, construction dispute resolution, interpretation of project specifications, project inspection and documentation review to assure high quality work by the contractors in accordance with plans, specifications and special provisions. The incumbent will assist with ensuring fair and equitable treatment of contractors. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with minimal supervision and be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.

NOTE:
This is a temporary position to be utilized while the incumbent is securing a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate. Permanent status shall be denied to incumbents occupying this position.

Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificates are issued by the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board. Licensing requirements may be viewed at www.lapels.com.
Job Duties:
Oversees construction activities for highway projects, including roads, bridges, drainage structures, and concrete/asphalt paving operations.
Reviews and verifies engineering technician work, including calculations, documentation, reports, and test results to ensure accuracy and compliance with DOTD standards.
Assists in directing engineering technicians in construction inspection, materials testing, contract administration, and training activities.
Reviews project plans and specifications prior to construction and interprets them during construction to ensure compliance and resolve field issues.
Serves as the first level of problem resolution by addressing plan discrepancies, utility conflicts, and unforeseen site conditions, and negotiating change orders with contractors as needed.
Assists with the preparation and processing of partial pay estimates and change orders, including performing calculations and maintaining supporting documentation.
Performs field data collection and engineering calculations to identify plan errors and support design adjustments such as alignment, grade, and cross slope.
Supports project documentation and administrative functions, including maintaining records in applicable systems, preparing test summaries, drafting public notifications, and providing backup payroll support.
Participates in interviews and makes hiring recommendations to the Project Manager.

Engineer Intern Applicant-$24.04/hourly- Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate. Applicants within 90 days of graduation may apply and not be deemed eligible until degree conferral. If you are applying prior to graduation, email the Hiring Manager listed below.
Engineer Intern 1- Special Entrance Rate (SER) $26.44/hourly. Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
Engineer Intern 2 -Special Entrance Rate (SER) $28.29/ hourly. Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate plus one year of professional engineering experience.
Engineer 3 -Special Entrance Rate (SER) $33.39/hourly. Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering.
Engineer 4 - Special Entrance Rate (SER) $36.90/hourly. Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus One year of licensed engineering experience OR Five years of professional engineering experience.
Engineer5 - Special Entrance Rate (SER) $39.48/hourly. Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plusTwo years of licensed engineering experience OR Six years of professional engineering experience.
