This position is responsible for conducting specialized and technical highway safety studies aligned with Louisiana's Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) and Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP), as well as providing technical assistance to other engineering professionals, Local Public Agencies (LP As) and agency staff regarding highway safety issues.

Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.

NOTE:
Applications will be accepted from persons who possess a current Engineer Intern Certificate in states other than Louisiana. However, the applicant will be required to obtain a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate prior to appointment. The hiring agency will verify that all requirements are met.

  • Conducts in-depth, project level and statewide engineering data driven highway safety studies and prepares detailed reports using the latest tools and science-based technical approaches.
  • Assists with technical reviews for HSIP and HSIP sub-programs including HSIP State Routes, LRSP, and SRTPPP project applications.
  • Performs quality assurance and quality control on safety analyses for project applications submitted for potential HSIP funding.
  • Assists Highway Safety Assistant Administrators with Vulnerable Road User safety and Complete Streets matters (DOTD's Complete Steets Steering Committee, Complete Streets Advisory Council, etc.).
  • Participates in the Louisiana Crash Tool Users group to develop and test new enhancements for the tool based on Highway Safety Manual (HSM) best practices.
  • Participates and assists with safety analysis training and touchpoints with highway safety partners (MPOs, LSU CARTS, Louisiana State Police (LSP), Louisiana Highway Safety Commission (LHSC), Operation Lifesaver, Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), LTAP, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and LP As) regarding safety analyses and HSIP sub-programs.

  • $2,671.20/biweekly

  • $2,952.00/biweekly

  • $3,158.40/biweekly

Appointment Type:This position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees); Job Appointment, or by detail to special duty.
