Job Title: Engine Technician

Job Description

As an Engine Technician, you will collaborate with engineers in the Pontiac Propulsion Labs to develop and test engine calibration and mechanical experiments. Your work will involve both the 1st shift (6 am to 3 pm, Monday to Friday) and the 2nd shift (2-3 pm to 10:30-11:30 pm, Monday to Thursday), with potential Sunday night through Thursday night/morning shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers to test and optimize engine performance.
  • Work in a laboratory setting using AVL/PUMA and emissions equipment.
  • Conduct engine tuning and calibration using software such as HP Tuners.
  • Operate manual testing on a dyno.
  • Manipulate fuel tables, air-intake, spark, and exhaust for optimum performance.
  • Work at the component level, including oil pumps, head or cam changes, fuel injectors, and spark plugs.
  • Assemble, modify, and fabricate engines for testing.
  • Fabricate components for engine and test stand/dynos.
  • Perform instrumentations between the engine and the dyno.
  • TIG weld parts and components.

Essential Skills

  • Experience with engine dynamometer, ideally 2-3 years.
  • Hands-on experience in engine rebuild, tear down, assembly, repair, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in engine calibration and tuning using software such as HP Tuners.
  • Ability to perform welding and fabrication tasks.
  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with AVL/PUMA and emissions equipment.
  • Mechanical experience with a history of modifying or building vehicles.
  • Experience working in a lab environment focused on testing and development.

Work Environment

The work environment is a clean and air-conditioned test lab and garage, serving as an engineering headquarters. The facility includes a full-service cafeteria open from 6 am to 2:30 pm, and there is ample parking available, although employees may need to walk up to a quarter mile to enter the building. Basic personal tools are required, but the company will provide a toolbox and any specialized tools needed for the job.

This is a Contract position based out of PONTIAC, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $35.00/hr.
