Health Benefits -CalPERS health insurance offering variety of HMO's and PPO's. District contributes 92% of the health plan premium and the employee is responsible for the remaining 8% of the premium. Dental and vision insurance are also paid by the District.

IncentivesEducation incentive - up to 10.5% maxLongevity - 2% of base pay starting at 10 years of service and up to 12% of base pay depending on years of service. Under direction of the assigned Captain/Supervisor, provides ambulance transport services as a member of the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District (District).

Regular and reliable attendance is a requirement of the job.
The incumbent will be required to perform a full range of EMS skills and services, including but not limited to:
- Operate District owned ambulances and other District vehicles as directed, including driving to and from medical emergencies as part of the ambulance transportation team.
- A certified EMT-B is authorized to do any of the following procedures utilizing BLS level skills during training, while at the scene of an emergency, or during patient care but is not limited to:
- Evaluate the ill and injured and document findings and actions on a patient care report- Render basic life support, rescue and first aid to patients- Obtain and document diagnostic signs including but not limited to temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration rates, level of consciousness, and pupil status
- Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, including the use of mechanical adjuncts to basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillators (AED)
- Use the following adjunctive airway breathing aids: i. Oropharyngeal airway; nasopharyngeal airway; ii. Suction devices; iii. Basic oxygen delivery devices; and iv. Manual and mechanical ventilating devices designed for pre-hospital use. -Use various types of stretchers and body immobilization devices.
- Provide initial pre-hospital emergency care of trauma
- Perform basic field triage
- Transport patients
- Assist an Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic in the pre-treatment set up for Advanced Life Support procedures
- Manage patients within their scope of practice
-Assist patients in utilizing prescribed medications per Sacramento County EMS Protocols.
-Lifting patients into ambulances on a gurney.
-Contact receiving hospital during transport to communicate patient assessment findings and treatment information.
3. A certified EMT-B is authorized to do any of the following procedures utilizing BLS level skills during training, while at the scene of an emergency, or during patient care but is not limited to: Cleans and decontaminates equipment including but not limited to, ambulances and EMS equipment.4. Collection and documentation of patient information per District policy.5. Maintains and restocks inventory of ambulance and station EMS supplies through logistics orders.6. Performs preventative maintenance inspections (PMI) on assigned apparatus.7. Follows all Federal, State, County, Local, and District laws, regulations, protocols, and policies including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).8. Attend and successfully complete District and hospital training sessions and drills.9. Participates in overseeing operational readiness and cleanliness of apparatus and equipment.10. Performs other duties as directed by District Staff in accordance with the chain of command.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a background check and a physical to include a drug screen.
The education or experience requirements may be modified or waived at the sole discretion of the Fire Chief. At least one of the education or experience requirements must be met; both requirements cannot be modified or waived. The Sacramento Metro Fire District Board of Directors shall be notified of any such modifications or waivers.
Age
Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
Education and Experience
Education must be obtained through a post-secondary institution currently accredited byany accreditation body recognized by either the Counsel for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or the United States Department of Education.
Education:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Possession of and ability to maintain current California EMT-B Certificate or greater with a current CPR card.
Experience:
1. Work experience on a transporting ambulance is highly desirable.

1. Operate both as a member of a team and independently at incidents of uncertain factors.

4. Perform a variety of tasks on slippery, hazardous surfaces such as on roadways.
5. Work in areas where sustaining traumatic or thermal injuries are possible.
6. Face exposure due to working in proximity to emergency scenes where carcinogenic dusts such as asbestos, toxic substances such as hydrogen cyanide, acids, carbon monoxide, or organic solvents are present either through inhalation or skin contact.
7. Face exposure to infectious agents such as but not limited to Hepatitis B or HIV.
8. Wear designated personal protective equipment while performing essential functions.
9. Perform complex tasks during life-threatening emergencies.
10. Work for long periods of time, requiring sustained physical activity and intense concentration.
11. Face life and death decision during emergency conditions.
12. Exposed to grotesque sights and smells associated with major trauma and burn victims.
13. Make rapid transitions from rest to near maximal exertion without warm-up periods.
14. Operate in environments of high noise, poor visibility, limited mobility, at heights, and in enclosed or confined spaces.
15. Rely on senses of sight, hearing, smells, and touch to help determine the nature of the emergency, maintain personal safety, and make critical decisions in a confused, chaotic, and potentially life threatening environment throughout the duration of the incident.
LICENSE
Possession of and ability to maintain a current valid California Driver's License, Class C, is a condition of employment.

Veterans must provide proof of honorable discharge or disability at time of application (DD-214).Eligibility List: Candidates must be successful in all examination phases to be placed on an eligibility list. The Fire Chief will, when filling vacancies, make a selection from those on the eligibility list. The eligibility list will be active for up to six (6) months and may be extended or canceled at the discretion of the Fire Chief.Background Investigation: Candidates offered formal employment must be successful in all examination phases, including passing the District's background investigation to include a criminal history check, DMV verification, credit history review, truth verification examination, psychological examination, physical examination, and a drug screening.Proof of Legal Residence :Pursuant to the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) of 1986, all new hire applicants will be required to show proof of legal residence entitling them to work in the United States prior to becoming an employee of the District.
