• 5G & Cellular Stack Diagnostics: Expert understanding of 5G/LTE link diagnostics, network protocols, and end-to-end communication stacks.
• Algorithm Implementation: Proven experience developing and running low-level algorithms natively on hardware modules (e.g., uplink/downlink outage detection, module state resets, network re-attachment).
• Wireless Tech Integration: Deep knowledge of Wi-Fi communication protocols, device classification, and Quality of Service (QoS) performance management.
• Scripting & Automation: Competency in Python for building automated test setups, simulating data, or parsing raw cellular log information.
Secondary (Good to Have):
• Advanced Academic Foundation: Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a highly relevant quantitative technical discipline.
• Automotive Architecture: Experience navigating Telematics Control Units (TCU), vehicle communication buses, and embedded system constraints unique to connected vehicles.
• Advanced Analysis: Ability to isolate performance bottlenecks across complex, distributed wireless network environments.
POSITION OVERVIEW
We are looking for a highly skilled Embedded Systems Engineer specializing in Automotive 5G Cellular Modem Diagnostics to join our engineering team on-site in Warren, MI. In this critical role, you will be responsible for developing, tuning, and optimizing embedded communication software running directly on next-generation connected vehicle hardware. Your primary objective will be to design and implement robust C/C++ algorithms capable of detecting uplink/downlink outages in real time, executing automated hardware resets, and maximizing the stability and Quality of Service (QoS) for in-vehicle 5G and Wi-Fi networks.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Write high-performance, clean, and efficient embedded C/C++ source code to implement complex telematics diagnostics mechanisms.
• Design and code low-latency uplink and downlink outage detection algorithms that run natively within the vehicle’s cellular communication module.
• Engineer state-reset and network re-attachment trigger logic within the cellular module to autonomously recover from dropped network connections.
• Build advanced 5G link diagnostic tools to accurately isolate and classify faults across the end-to-end cellular communications stack.
• Architect and refine in-vehicle Wi-Fi device classification profiles and management policies to improve overall wireless user experience.
• Utilize Python and automated testing methodologies to validate algorithm behaviors against challenging real-world cellular signal conditions.
