PYP Homeroom Teacher


Tarbiyah Academy is seeking a reflective, skilled, and mission-aligned PYP Homeroom Teacher to deliver the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme within a holistic Islamic educational framework.


As a PYP Homeroom Teacher, you are responsible for cultivating a classroom environment that is intellectually rigorous, spiritually grounded, and developmentally appropriate. You will teach all core subject areas through inquiry-based learning while nurturing students’ faith identity, character development, and academic confidence.

Pedagogy & Instructional Excellence

The PYP Homeroom Teacher is expected to:

  • Deliver high-quality, inquiry-based instruction aligned with the IB Primary Years Programme
  • Teach all core content areas through meaningful, concept-driven Units of Inquiry
  • Integrate Islamic values and character education authentically across subject areas
  • Empower students to become independent learners and critical thinkers
  • Clearly articulate what is being taught, why it matters, and how learning will be assessed
  • Use formative and summative assessments to guide instruction and differentiate for diverse learners
  • Provide high-quality scaffolding and timely, actionable feedback
  • Engage students in reflection and ownership of their learning
  • Collaboratively plan with grade-level and vertical teams to ensure coherence and progression


Classroom Culture & Student Development

  • Create a structured, joyful, and emotionally safe learning environment
  • Implement positive behavior systems aligned with school expectations
  • Support students’ social-emotional growth and early character development
  • Foster belonging, dignity, and respect within the classroom community
  • Maintain organized and engaging classroom environments that support optimal learning


Family Partnership & Communication

  • Build strong relationships with families through proactive and transparent communication
  • Participate in three-way conferences and student-led conferences
  • Provide clear and informative progress reports
  • Partner with parents to support student growth academically and socially


Professional Collaboration & Growth

  • Actively participate in collaborative planning and professional learning communities
  • Engage in IB professional development and ongoing teacher growth
  • Contribute to accreditation and authorization processes
  • Seek continuous improvement in instructional practice and technology integration
  • Offer at least one extracurricular activity per week
  • Participate in school events, field trips, and co-curricular responsibilities

Salary Determination

Salary placement is determined by full-time teaching experience, state certification status, and highest degree earned (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate).


Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education (or related field) from an accredited U.S. university
  • Authorization to work in the United States
  • Strong command of English (Homeroom teachers must demonstrate native-level fluency)


Preferred:

  • State certification
  • Master’s degree
  • Experience in IB Primary Years Programme
  • Experience in independent or Islamic schools
