Job Description – Electronics Lab Tech (Reliability & Manufacturing Testing)

Location: Fully Onsite (100% onsite at assigned facility - Palo Alto, CA
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (1-hour non-billable lunch)
Pay Rate: $27 – $35 per hour
Requirement: Must pass MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) check
Overview
In this role, you will join the team responsible for reliability and manufacturing testing of electrical hardware supporting Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies. This includes Level 3+ ADAS systems, telematics, infotainment platforms, battery management systems, and zonal Electronic Control Units (ECUs).
The team develops and maintains custom automated test solutions, including internal software tools, low-level firmware interfaces, data management platforms, and electromechanical test hardware. These systems are deployed across internal labs, external validation facilities, and contract manufacturing environments.
You will play a key hands-on technical role, partnering closely with engineering leads to execute testing, analyze and report results, build first articles, review/redline schematics, and troubleshoot hardware and system-level issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate software user interfaces to control and execute automated test equipment during hardware bring-up and validation
- Perform system validation using laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, power analyzers, programmable power supplies, and digital multimeters
- Own calibration, setup, and mechanical configuration of thermal chambers and vibration testing systems
- Troubleshoot, root cause, and document failures across devices under test (DUTs), test equipment, and harness assemblies
- Perform circuit board modifications including soldering, desoldering, and component-level rework
- Support commissioning and validation of new test systems and equipment
- Review and interpret electrical schematics, engineering drawings, and manufacturer datasheets
- Collaborate with engineering teams to identify gaps in test coverage and support continuous improvement
- Maintain accurate documentation of test results, issues, and corrective actions
Qualifications
- Technical degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience
- 5+ years of experience in automated test equipment (ATE), validation engineering, or industrial automation
- Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation
- Hands-on experience with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, etc.)
- Experience with soldering, PCB rework, and electronic component troubleshooting
- Familiarity with power tools and mechanical test setup procedures
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications
- Ability to lift and move test equipment and instrumentation as required
- Strong hands-on mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving and gap identification
