Electroneurodiagnostic Technologist I/II - Neurosurgery - EMG/NCS

UTHealth Houston Neurosciences is hiring for an Electroneurodiagnostic Technologist II to join their team of professionals. The Electroneurodiagnostic Tech will be responsible for performing electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies (NCS) according to physician’s orders, preparing patients for procedures, explaining procedures, measuring for accurate electrode sites, applying electrodes and adjusting as appropriate; performing basic equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and contacting biomedical engineering when appropriate, and more.


Location: Regular travel to UTHealth Houston Neurosciences Greater Heights (1631 N Loop W #245, Houston, TX 77008), UTHealth Houston Neurosciences Sugar Land (17520 W. Grand Parkway S #450, Sugar Land, TX 77479), UTHealth Houston Neurosciences Katy (23960 Katy Freeway #450, Katy, TX 77497), and UTHealth Houston Neurosciences Memorial City (929 Gessner Rd, # 2410, Houston, TX 77024).


EEG Specific Activities

  • Independently prepares patients for testing and/or monitoring by accurately placing electrodes and using established protocols required for the procedure.
  • Recognizes artifacts on EEG recording with an attempt to eliminate. Requests assistance from physician and/or peers when difficulties are encountered.
  • Recognizes abnormalities on EEG and enhances them by utilizing appropriate filter settings, paper speeds and/or monitoring techniques.
  • Completes a technical description and prepares recorded EEG recording for the physician.

EMG Specific Activities

  • Assists Neurologist in performing EMG procedures with a focus on patient comfort and physician needs. May also perform EMG procedure independently under the supervision of physician.
  • Prepares patients for nerve conduction studies in a professional manner and as specified by the physician.
  • Measures and records time and distance between stimulus and response, manually or using a computer, and calculates velocity of electrical impulse in peripheral nerve.
  • Monitors response on oscilloscope and records the nerve conduction velocity.
  • Legibly records accurate latencies and calculations on designated forms for physician review. Prepares printed results for physician review.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate’s degree in related field preferred.
  • Neurodiagnostic Technology degree preferred.
  • Medical Assistant experience preferred.


Minimum Experience:

  • One (1) year of related experience.
