Cardiac Cath Lab Technologist, $25K Sign On Bonus

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Job Duties

  • Assist physicians with cardiac catheterization, vascular studies, and procedures like balloon angioplasty and stent placement, focusing on heart structure, blood flow, including blockages and other exams; congenital heart disease, peripheral angiograms, endomyocardial biopsies and pacemakers.
  • Provide direct support to physicians by assisting with aseptic techniques supporting and maintaining a sterile field during procedures including cardiac-related devices such as catheters, guidewires, and other procedural instruments.
  • Operate and document hemodynamic data, patient symptoms, and responses during procedures. Monitor and promptly communicate changes in electrocardiogram (EKG), blood pressure, oxygen saturation, or other critical parameters to the physician and care team.
  • Operate imaging tables and position patients to achieve optimal fluoroscopic visualization. Set parameters for radiation dose and manage digital image acquisition processes. Ensure radiation safety by adhering to established practices that are as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA) and safety standards for patients and staff.
  • Review physician orders for accuracy, diagnosis, and applicability to interventional procedures. Screen patients for contrast allergies, contraindications, and appropriateness that would prohibit or modify the exam. Communicate with physicians to discuss stat/urgent findings.
  • Interview the patient (two patient identifiers), obtaining pertinent medical history pertaining to the procedure’s clinical criteria. Apply technical knowledge and skills to perform procedures, adhering to age-specific guidelines safely.
  • Advocate effectively for patients and families by addressing concerns promptly, escalating complaints to the manager or designated representative, and using the chain of command to resolve issues.
  • Ensure images and information are appropriately documented with patient identification data and appropriate labeling.
  • Complete all documentation requirements after procedures, including electronic health record (EHR) updates, hemodynamics, accurate supply scanning, and charge documentation. Ensure proper archiving of images to MIMPS medical image management processing systems (previously called PACS) by following quality control measures.
  • Prioritize the safe and efficient transport of patients to and from the cardiovascular department by utilizing appropriate hand-offs for optimal care.
  • Troubleshoot minor equipment issues, initiate first-line service ticket requests and notify the supervisor for follow-up actions. Perform quality control testing and report problems with medical equipment to biomed/service engineer, with additional correspondence to department leadership.
  • Actively participate in codes and rapid response. Communicate shift hand-off regarding workflow issues with equipment or pending exams with oncoming staff.
  • Engage in equitable distribution of departmental workloads. Take responsibility for workplace actions, report errors promptly, and resolve them appropriately.
  • Actively participate in providing orientation and training for new hires and students, ensuring that procedures are performed according to set standards.
  • Function in the department as a part of an interdisciplinary team and collaborate in the care and service delivery process of patient care through effective communication with other service lines.
  • Prioritize and assist with scheduling exams to ensure smooth workflow, minimize wait times, and address stat requests.
  • On-call is required: 30 minutes arrival time after notification.
