Job Title: Data Center Electrician
Job Description
Join a specialized electrical construction team supporting large-scale data center projects in Northern Virginia. In this role, you install and commission critical infrastructure, including server racks, cable tray systems, conduit, and fiber and copper cabling, while working in both non-energized and energized environments. You contribute directly to building high-availability facilities by performing precise installations, adhering to safety and quality standards, and collaborating with field teams at various electrician levels.
Responsibilities
- Install and align server racks and cabinets according to layout drawings and project specifications.
- Install cable tray systems, ladder racks, and associated supports to create structured pathways for cabling.
- Rough in conduit, sleeves, stub-ups, and pathway systems to support electrical and low-voltage infrastructure.
- Pull, dress, route, and support fiber and copper cabling in accordance with standards and best practices.
- Install disconnect tap boxes on live busway in a controlled and safe environment while following all safety procedures.
- Wear and properly use 40 Cal protective arc-rated suits when performing energized work, as required.
- Provide and use personal PPE and basic hand tools needed to perform daily electrical tasks safely and efficiently.
- Install grounding and bonding components to ensure system safety and compliance with code requirements.
- Perform final terminations under verified de-energized conditions and document work as required.
- Verify labeling, torque values, workmanship quality, and code compliance on installed systems.
- Maintain safety, cleanliness, and documentation standards required on data center construction sites.
- As an Apprentice Electrician, assist with rack installation, tray installation, conduit rough-in, and material handling.
- As an Apprentice Electrician, pull cable, dress pathways, and support electricians in daily tasks.
- As an Apprentice Electrician, follow direction, adhere to safety procedures, and learn inspection-ready workmanship.
- As a Journeyman Electrician, independently install racks, tray, and conduit systems with minimal supervision.
- As a Journeyman Electrician, read and build from construction prints and layout drawings.
- As a Journeyman Electrician, route and dress fiber and copper cabling in line with project standards.
- As a Journeyman Electrician, perform and verify both de-energized and energized terminations where required.
- As a Journeyman Electrician, identify and correct scope discrepancies or quality issues in the field.
- As a Lead Installer or Foreman, lead small crews and coordinate daily work activities to meet project goals.
- As a Lead Installer or Foreman, interface with general contractor, safety, and QA/QC teams to resolve issues and align work.
- As a Lead Installer or Foreman, ensure schedule, quality, and productivity targets are met for assigned scopes.
- As a Lead Installer or Foreman, review installations for compliance with the National Electrical Code and project standards.
- As a Lead Installer or Foreman, support punch lists, inspections, and turnover readiness activities for project completion.
Essential Skills
- 3+ years of electrical construction experience for Apprentice-level roles.
- 5+ years of electrical construction experience for Journeyman-level roles.
- 10+ years of electrical construction experience for Lead Installer or Foreman roles.
- Proven ability to install server racks, cable tray, conduit, and pathway systems in a construction environment.
- Basic to strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), appropriate to role level.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, prints, and layout documents.
- Capability to work at heights safely and effectively when installing overhead systems.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks on an active job site.
- Willingness and ability to work overtime as needed to support project schedules.
- Prior data center experience is highly preferred.
- OSHA training or certification exposure (OSHA 10 preferred; OSHA 30 considered a plus).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working on large-scale electrical construction projects, particularly in mission-critical environments.
- Familiarity with installing and working around live busway systems in accordance with safety protocols.
- Comfort working in 40 Cal protective arc-rated suits during energized tasks.
- Strong attention to detail in labeling, torqueing, and documenting electrical work.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with apprentices, journeymen, foremen, and cross-functional site teams.
- Commitment to maintaining inspection-ready workmanship and adhering to established quality standards.
- Strong safety mindset and consistent adherence to job site safety procedures and PPE requirements.
