Electrical Test Engineer – Commercial Chiller Systems

Job Summary

Seeking an Electrical Test Engineer to support validation and certification of commercial chiller systems. The role focuses on electrical testing, instrumentation, data analysis, and compliance, ensuring system performance, safety, and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute electrical testing for air-cooled and water-cooled chillers
  • Maintain and troubleshoot electrical systems, control circuits, and wiring
  • Set up and validate test instrumentation (voltage, current, power, harmonics)
  • Analyze test data and prepare technical reports
  • Support compliance testing (UL, IEC, AHRI, ASHRAE)
  • Collaborate with engineering teams for root cause analysis and improvements
  • Support FAT, qualification, and reliability testing
  • Ensure adherence to lab safety and electrical standards (NFPA/NEC)

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 5–7 years in electrical testing / validation (HVAC or industrial preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of three-phase systems, VFDs, motor drives
  • Experience with test equipment (oscilloscope, power analyzer, DAQ)
  • Knowledge of PLCs, sensors, and protocols (Modbus, BACnet, CAN)
  • Ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with commercial chillers / HVAC systems
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE, AHRI, UL, IEC standards
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency testing
  • Experience with LabVIEW, Python, MATLAB
  • PE or EIT certification (plus)

Additional Notes

  • Lab-based role involving high-voltage systems and rotating equipment
  • Requires strict adherence to safety protocols and PPE
  • Occasional extended hours during testing and audits
