Job Title: Owner’s Representative – Utility-Scale Solar (Electrical Focus)

Job Description

The Owner’s Representative oversees utility-scale solar construction projects with a strong focus on electrical work and quality assurance. This role provides on-site representation to ensure that contractors meet safety, quality, schedule, and contractual requirements while maintaining clear communication with the construction management team. The position requires extensive travel to project sites and active involvement in day-to-day field activities, documentation, and coordination with multiple contractors and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a regular presence on the construction site during hours when contractors are present and actively working.
  • Act as a safety steward by adhering to all safety requirements established by contractors and the project owner, promptly reporting any deficiencies or safety concerns to the Construction Manager and owner representatives.
  • Stop work immediately when there is any imminent danger to personnel or equipment, or when a major quality concern arises.
  • Review electrical contractors’ work procedures to verify they adequately address and align with the contractual scope of work.
  • Monitor the quality of electrical construction to ensure compliance with permits, supplier agreements, construction agreements, scope of work, designs, and specifications.
  • Perform daily visits to construction areas, participating in contractor-led quality benchmarks and safety programs.
  • Attend scheduled field testing for electrical work to witness and confirm that test results meet project specifications.
  • Conduct spot checks and in-depth inspections of electrical work based on project needs and risk areas.
  • Serve as a liaison between all electrical contractors on site to facilitate coordination, resolve issues, and maintain alignment with project goals.
  • Review all termination, energization, and commissioning test reports for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to specifications.
  • Review all contractor electrical QA/QC documentation to ensure proper recordkeeping and compliance.
  • Assist periodically in other disciplines, such as mechanical, materials, or general quality assurance, and actively develop cross-functional skills as needed by the project.
  • Establish regular points of connection with contractors by attending Plan of Day (POD), End of Day (EOD), and other all-hands or coordination meetings.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders, promoting collaboration and recognizing high-quality work.
  • Perform regular site visits to monitor progress, participate in quality benchmarks, and support safety programs implemented by project contractors.
  • Report promptly to the owner any actual or anticipated deviations from project specifications, standards, or agreements.
  • Provide weekly written reports that include detailed records, narratives, and photos documenting on-site activities, progress, issues, and any agreements reached with contractors, suppliers, subcontractors, transmission providers, site owners, government officials, the public, or other relevant parties.
  • Attend in-office or virtual training sessions and meetings as required to remain fully prepared and aligned with project procedures and expectations, and apply these learnings on the project.
  • Use the construction management software platform to prepare reports, store and review documentation, and complete other project-related tasks.
  • Participate in virtual meetings and documentation reviews when not physically present on the project site.
  • Support adherence to project deadlines, budgets, and performance targets while working effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure construction environment.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of mechanical installation experience on utility-scale solar projects.
  • Experience performing quality control checks for mechanical, electrical, or civil construction activities.
  • Working knowledge of utility-scale solar systems, including single-axis tracking systems.
  • Ability to interpret and work with scopes of work, construction drawings, designs, and technical specifications.
  • Strong understanding of electrical construction practices and field testing processes, including termination, energization, and commissioning.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, including the ability to recognize hazards and take decisive action when necessary.
  • Ability to maintain detailed written records, reports, and photographic documentation of site activities and progress.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders in a professional manner.
  • Ability to travel extensively and work full-time on remote project sites.
  • Capacity to work under tight deadlines and handle pressure in a construction environment with schedule and budget constraints.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Prior experience working with Nextracker racking systems is a strong plus.
  • Experience with other single-axis tracking technologies, such as ATI or similar systems, is beneficial.
  • Background in utility-scale solar quality control or QA/QC roles is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with construction management software for reporting and document control.
  • Cross-functional experience or interest in mechanical, materials, or general quality assurance beyond electrical work.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to foster collaboration and positive relationships across multiple contractors and teams.

Work Environment

This role is 100% travel-based and is primarily located on utility-scale solar farm construction sites in states such as Missouri, New Mexico, and Nevada. The work takes place outdoors in varying weather conditions, around large solar arrays where panels face east in the morning and tilt throughout the day as part of a single-axis tracking system. The site includes an underground collection system that routes energy to an overhead transmission line. The environment is fast-paced with tight deadlines, strict timelines, and defined budget constraints, requiring resilience and the ability to manage pressure. Work hours may be extended, and overtime of approximately 10 hours per week is typical. The position involves regular interaction with multiple contractors and stakeholders, frequent site walks over uneven terrain, and participation in field testing and inspections. Travel support may include per diem, paid mobilization and demobilization for qualifying travel distances, and access to a rental vehicle, enabling the Owner’s Representative to remain fully engaged on site throughout the project lifecycle.
