Electrical Engineer

Clearwater, FL - Hybrid

About the Company

This organization is a distributed energy platform focused on delivering flexible, resilient onsite power solutions across North America. The company develops and operates grid-connected and islanded energy systems, enabling customers to better manage cost, reliability, and sustainability.

The Role

As an Electrical Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and developing electrical systems for onsite power and microgrid projects. This position involves both conceptual and detailed engineering work across a range of project types, from distributed generation systems to larger-scale power infrastructure.

This is a hands-on role with broad exposure across design, analysis, procurement, and project support, working closely with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to conceptual design of onsite power and microgrid solutions, including natural gas generation (combustion turbines and reciprocating engines), grid-synchronous switchgear, and integration of solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS), based on customer requirements and technical specifications
  • Perform detailed electrical engineering design and analysis, including development of single-line diagrams, control schematics, protection schemes, sequence of operations, and integration across low, medium, and high voltage systems, including utility interconnection
  • Build and execute system models using tools such as ETAP, PSCAD, BlockSim, or similar to evaluate performance across reliability, availability, maintainability, load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, transient response, and arc flash scenarios
  • Develop technical specifications for key electrical components (e.g., medium and low voltage switchgear), support vendor engagement and quoting, and participate in factory acceptance testing to ensure equipment performance and compliance
  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, and internal design standards, ensuring alignment with industry codes, regulatory requirements, and project needs
  • Support commercial and business development efforts by participating in customer discussions, site visits, and technical presentations, and by helping translate customer requirements into engineered solutions
  • Identify and evaluate technical risks across projects, incorporating mitigation strategies related to design, performance, safety, and regulatory considerations
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices to continuously improve system design, efficiency, and overall project outcomes
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including clients, vendors, contractors, and regulatory bodies, providing technical expertise and supporting successful project execution

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Experience in power systems engineering, ideally within generation, microgrids, or energy infrastructure
  • Familiarity with electrical system design and analysis for complex projects
  • Proficiency with engineering tools such as AutoCAD, ETAP, PSCAD, BlockSim, and Excel
  • Understanding of relevant codes and standards (e.g., IEEE, NEC)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to travel as needed

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with distributed energy systems, microgrids, or energy storage
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems and generator operations
  • Experience supporting mission-critical infrastructure (e.g., data centers)
  • Exposure to additional design or modeling tools (e.g., Revit)

What’s Offered

  • Competitive compensation
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • 401(k) plan
  • Flexible work environment
  • Opportunity to contribute to a high-growth energy platform
