Job Title: Electrical Designer
Job Description

The Electrical Designer will be an integral part of a project team, performing various phases of planning, site evaluations, analytical designs, report preparation, specifications, and preparation of proposal and construction documentation and electrical plans. This position involves working on a diverse portfolio of project types and clients, including creating electrical schematics, grid plan layouts, electrical power systems, lighting systems, protection and controls, and site and facility design. The role requires adherence to company, client, and project design and drafting standards.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and develop drawings for production work, including problem analysis, design layout, and calculations on non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity.
  • Execute a variety of electrical design assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques, including drawing sequence and presentation, sizing various system components, and refining rough sketches.
  • Implement changes to designs or sketches and redlines or mark-ups on ongoing projects.
  • Analyze reports, drawings, and tests to plan and design projects.
  • Interpret and incorporate design codes and specifications related to design requirements.
  • Review design drawings for quality assurance within scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Perform project tasks and assignments within budgeted hours and deadlines.
  • Compute volume calculations for conduit/grounding layouts, equipment and panel wiring diagrams, and relay panel schematics.
  • Organize and maintain all revisions of project drawings, plot files, and project-related information logically and structurally.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in written and verbal forms as it relates to project client coordination.
  • Comply with all policies and standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in drafting/design with 7+ years of related experience, or Associate degree with 8+ years of related experience, or High School diploma with a minimum of 9 years of progressive detailing and design experience.
  • 7+ years of AutoCAD design experience.
  • Advanced ability to utilize 2D & 3D applications for engineering drawings/designs.
  • Understanding of engineering calculations, design, and design systems.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or Bentley Microstation electrical design.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Substation design experience preferred.
  • Experience in capital project design is a plus.
Work Environment

The position is within a consulting, professional engineering firm environment, consisting of a team of approximately 15 engineers and project managers working in downtown Lexington. There is a flexible work environment with a hybrid schedule post-integration, requiring 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home. Located in Lexington or Louisville, KY, the work environment is business casual and highly collaborative within the team. Some site visits are required to assess existing project conditions and contribute to design specifications, which involve 5% travel with one-day visits locally and no overnight stays. The team is close-knit, culture-driven, and part of an industry leader nationally and at the local level.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lexington, KY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $39.00 - $46.99/hr.
