Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of experience in electrical design or electrical CAD drafting
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical, with the ability to create electrical designs and schematics from scratch
- Hands‑on experience designing switchgear, electrical panels, and power distribution systems
- Experience working in both electrical and mechanical design software, including AutoCAD Electrical and Autodesk Inventor
- Proven experience creating electrical engineering schematics, including Ladder logic diagrams, Wiring diagrams, Power schematics
- Experience designing electrical panels and enclosures, such as VFD cabinets, MCCs (Motor Control Centers), Switch panels, Electrical cabinets and Electrical houses
- Ability to select electrical components and design layouts showing how systems connect and function
- Strong understanding of electrical codes and standards
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- Ability to take an electrical enclosure from concept through completion
- 3D design experience (panels, enclosures, or layouts)
- Experience collaborating closely with engineers, fabrication teams, or field technicians
Job Description
Insight Global is hiring an Electrical CAD Designer for our client located in the Houston (Jersey Village) area. This role will focus on designing electrical systems and components from the ground up, supporting industrial and power distribution projects.
The Electrical CAD Designer will join an established team of six designers plus a manager and work closely with electrical engineers to develop, review, and finalize designs.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design electrical cabinets, panels, and power systems
• Create wiring diagrams, ladder logic, and power schematics from scratch
• Design VFD cabinets, MCC-style lineups, switchgear, and switch panels
• Select electrical components and define system layouts and connections
• Ensure all drawings comply with applicable electrical codes, standards, and best practices
• Collaborate with engineering, fabrication, and field teams to support build and installation
