The EHS Specialist role focuses on supporting EHS programs, advising management on compliance matters, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The position works closely with site leadership, employees, and management to translate complex EHS requirements into actionable practices for R&D and office environments. The role also supports audits, emergency response, and site-wide safety initiatives.

As a EHS Specialist, you create chemistry by...

  • Supporting Environmental, Health & Safety programs across RTP sites and other assigned locations.
  • Providing technical and regulatory expertise to ensure compliance, safe workplaces, and continuous EHS improvement.
  • Advising site management on EHS compliance issues and corrective actions on industrial hygiene, process safety, water pollution controls and permitting, solid and hazardous waste management, stormwater pollution controls and permitting, and EHS management systems.
  • Leading emergency response efforts as an active member of the RTP Crisis Management Team.
  • Managing chemical inventory processes for RTP sites.
  • Conducting EHS training and participating in site safety committees.
  • Supporting audit preparations, follow-ups, and maintaining audit readiness.
  • Maintaining state and local environmental compliance certifications.
  • Promoting safe working practices and ensuring adherence to all safety rules.
If you...

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher in safety, engineering, technical, science, or other related field of study is required.
  • Have a minimum of 2 years of demonstrated EHS experience in a manufacturing, research environment, or other highly-regulated environment, preferably within chemical manufacturing.
  • Have a working knowledge of Environmental, Health & Safety technologies and applicable regulations (including water pollution, waste management and industrial hygiene).
  • Show occupational safety expertise through hands-on experience in EHS practices.
  • Demonstrate strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Are able to travel up to 10%, domestically.
