This position is in the General Government Unit (GGU) at a Range 13/15.


What You Will Be Doing:
Alaska Vocational Technical Center (AVTEC), a division of the Department of Labor and Workforce Development, is recruiting for an Education Associate 1/2. This position reviews new regulations and interprets impact on AVTEC programs, disseminates the impact to administration, instructors, counselors, admissions, student accounts, and financial aid.

Attention to detail is critical to reviewing documents and correspondence involved with this position. These documents are used for federal organizational entities such as the Counsel of Occupational Education (COE), the U.S. Department of Education and Veterans Administration. This position assists with preparing administrative reports resulting from Legislative requests.

This position certifies enrollment information such as attendance and academic progress, graduation status and dates, issues certificates, and processes training summaries. As an Education Associate 2, this position is the lead over three admissions staff.

Education Associate Level 1:
(1) Graduation from an accredited college, preferably in administration and/or education.

OR

(2) Four years of experience in the broad field of education, counseling or administrative services, one year of which was at the advanced clerical level.

OR

(3) Any combination of the above.

Substitution: Graduate study may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Education Associate Level 2:
(1) Graduation from an accredited college, preferably in administration and/or education. AND One year of experience as an Education Associate 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

OR

(2) Five years of experience in the broad field of education, counseling or administrative services, one year of which was at the technical/paraprofessional.

OR

(3) Any combination of the above.

Substitution: In option 2, graduate study may be substituted for the required specialized experience on a year-for-year basis. Undergraduate study, preferably in administration and/or education may also substitute for the generalized experience in option 2 on a year-for-year basis.

FLEXIBLY STAFFED
This is a flexibly staffed position with the opportunity to advance to Level 2 upon management’s assessment that the incumbent is performing adequately and has successfully completed training as an Education Associate 1.

DRIVER’S LICENSE REQUIREMENT
Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license. Proof of licensure will be required prior to reporting to duty.

SPECIAL NOTICE
This position requires passing APSIN and Federal Tax Information security clearance background checks.
