The Early Childhood Education Instructional Specialist leads the early childhood education lab activities as the children's classroom teacher. Works closely with the staff team to facilitate the operation of a full-day childcare program. Ensures all aspects of classroom teaching align with Early Childhood Education Program coursework and philosophy. Provides information, feedback, and support to practicum students, contributes to parent education program, and collaborates with staff and faculty.

Classroom/Lab
Maintains safe, clean and orderly facility and educational resources utilizing a variety of established systems and processes
Supervises and facilitates student use and care of materials to ensure appropriate use and maintenance
Plans, implements and supervises constructivist classroom including developmentally appropriate guidance, environment and activities
Evaluates and documents children's developmental goals and progress and develops appropriate curriculum based on these observations
Greets and interacts with parents in a warm and respectful manner on a daily basis
Provides parents with information about their children through daily feedback and regular parent conferences in a manner consistent with Early Childhood Education Program coursework and philosophy
Participates in the daily operation of the food/nutrition program
Collaborates with other staff to organize and offer parent education and communication program
Participates in enrollment, tracking, and record keeping related to children. families, and students
Instructional Support
Observes and coordinates practicum students, using instructor's guidelines
Provides input for instructor evaluation of practicum students
Provides ongoing and immediate feedback and information to practicum students during their work with children based on principles of adult learning
Supervises practicum students in absence of instructor
Meets and communicates with instructors to review and coordinate lab activities and environment to meet adult and child needs; assists with and attends lab seminars when requested
Coordinates and confers daily with others to ensure that children's programs meet children's developmental and Early Childhood Education program instructional needs
Collaborates with others to address questions, concerns and problems from students, parents and employees related to program or lab operations
Program Responsibilities
Models care and education of young children for college students in a manner consistent with Early Childhood Education Program coursework and philosophy
Collaborates with others regarding child and family issues as well as needed materials and supplies
Follows all guidelines established for licensed child care centers in the State of Oregon and participates as directed and initiates needed activities to maintain licensing and certification standards
Participates in staff meetings, and staff development opportunities
Maintains and tracks all required individual state licensing certifications and meets all related training requirements
Other Functions
May participate in planning and offering non-credit training
May be assigned responsibilities related to the Parent Resource Center including outreach, coaching, and navigation support to student parents in order to keep them engaged in Chemeketa coursework and programs.
May oversee activities of part time hourly staff
Performs all other job-related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
This level requires an equivalency of two (2) years of full-time work experience in the Knowledge and Skills listed above.
This is typically achieved through an Associate’s Degree in early childhood education, human development or closely related field

Food handlers and first aid certifications (or ability to obtain these certifications prior to beginning work)

Two (2) years of full-time work experience which reflect the Knowledge and Skills listed above.

Food handlers and first aid certifications (or ability to obtain these certifications prior to beginning work)
The college will review relevant education and experience as equivalent in most cases.
Core Competencies:
Skills in interpersonal relationships and teamwork
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in early childhood education, human development, or a closely related field
Bilingual in English and Spanish
Knowledge of constructivist theory and practice
Two or more years of classroom teaching experience with children ages 0-5
Experience with college lab school or practicum as a staff member or student
Experience working or learning with people from a variety of cultural, social, economic, and educational backgrounds
SCHEDULE & MODALITY
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Light Work:Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Even though weight lifted may be negligible, it may be rated light work if frequent walking and/or standing is required.

Chemeketa Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
