The purpose of this classification is to perform duties related to answering and dispatching emergency 911 calls in the Department of Emergency Services. Responsibilities include answering emergency and non-emergency 911 calls, providing life-saving instructions, and dispatching appropriate response units in a timely manner while ensuring field units’ safety. This classification is distinguished from E911 Communications Officer III in that this class answers emergency and non-emergency calls, monitors service providers’ activities, and dispatches calls; whereas the latter conducts on-the-job training programs for Communications Officers and serves as shift lead as required. Incumbent works within a 24-hour, seven (7) days per week operation and performs shift work as required, including working holidays and weekends.
