DSHS FTAA Maintenance Mechanic 1

We are hiring for a Maintenance Mechanic to join our hard-working Maintenance and Operations Division (MOD) team.

Incumbent performs general maintenance, repair, remodeling, and construction duties utilizing working knowledge of several related skill fields such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, welding, painting and machinist work. Incumbents inspect, repair, install and maintain physical facilities, locks and maintain and repair machinery and equipment, maintains all DSHS operated facilities and associated equipment across Maple Lane Campus. Positions are used as general repairers when no immediate journey level tradesperson is available. General repairer positions are used when it would be impractical to have several journey level tradespersons on site. Other positions perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance duties requiring a limited knowledge of various trade skills. These positions work independently in routine maintenance assignments or under the technical direction of a journey level position.


Note:

  • Evening and Night shifts include a shift differential in addition to the standard compensation rate.
  • Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.

Some of what you'll do:
  • Perform semi-skilled and sub journey work in the maintenance, repair, alterations, grounds, facilities, and equipment.
  • Perform semi-skilled work, under the technical direction of a journey-level trades worker, in carpentry, plumbing, metal fabrication, HVAC, and mechanical work.
  • Operates hand tools, power tools and other shop equipment as needed.
  • Perform minor repairs on building fixtures, plumbing, heating, laundry and kitchen equipment, motors and electrical appliances.
  • Operates automotive equipment to transport materials and supplies.
  • Assist in the fabrication of equipment and materials constructed in trade shops in accordance with project requirements.
  • Maintain, repair, and perform small modification to building-installed plumbing to include, but not limited to water fountains, sinks, facets, water heaters, toilets, irrigation, floor drains and associated pumping equipment.
  • Maintain and repair low-voltage-building associated electrical equipment, and mechanical fixtures on all equipment within the facilities including but not limited to air conditioning and heating (HVAC), laundry, lighting, kitchen, maintenance, grounds, security equipment and all other program associated equipment, except medical.
  • Perform minor vehicle repair, such as changing a flat tire or installing windshield wipers.
  • Perform all associated tasks list in the Emergency Management Plan and routine snow and ice removal.
  • Perform monthly back up power generation tests in accordance with NFPA 110.
  • Develop and provide resource need lists to the Maintenance Supervisor for maintenance and repairs of equipment and small construction projects performed by MOD-ML.
  • Perform exit lighting and fire extinguisher test and checks.
  • Adhere to safety rules and precautions during all MOD-ML related activities. transport laundry to and from the point of use and the industrial laundry, pick up parts and supplies for maintenance operations.

Who should apply?

  • High school graduation or GED.

  • A valid state driver's license is required.

  • Two years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work.


Preferred knowledge, skills, & abilities:

  • Experience driving and operating a variety of vehicles and equipment such as trucks and vans.
  • Knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment for mechanical trades.
  • Respectful and knowledgeable about safety precautions.
  • Be able to lift 50lbs.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Understands the importance of record keeping.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, plans and sketches. Estimate materials and personnel needed to complete project.
