Position Summary
The Dry Utilities Lead will be responsible for launching and growing the company’s dry utilities division. As the first hire in this business unit, this individual will lead all aspects of the operation — including business development, estimating, and project execution. This is a high-impact, entrepreneurial role responsible for building a book of business, establishing processes, and delivering projects across dry utility scopes such as power, telecom and fiber for Data Centers and other market pursuits. The ideal candidate is both a seller and a builder — someone who can win work, execute it successfully, and help scale the division over time.
Key Responsibilities
Business Unit Leadership
- Serve as the lead for the dry utilities division, responsible for growth, performance, and execution
- Work with EVP and Preconstruction to develop strategy, target markets, and pipeline
- Establish workflows, standards, and best practices for estimating and project delivery
- Support hiring and building out the team as the division grows
Business Development & Revenue Generation
- Identify, pursue, and secure new dry utility projects
- Leverage existing relationships and build new client partnerships
- Lead proposals, presentations, and contract negotiations
- Maintain and manage an active pipeline of opportunities
- Drive top-line revenue growth for the division
Estimating / Preconstruction
- Lead all estimating efforts for dry utility scopes
- Prepare detailed takeoffs, budgets, and bid submissions
- Analyze plans and specifications to ensure complete and accurate scope coverage
- Identify risk, gaps, and value engineering opportunities
- Collaborate with EVP, Preconstruction on pricing strategy and bid approvals
Project Execution & Operations
- Oversee projects from award through closeout
- Manage budgets, schedules, and cost performance (P&L / CTC)
- Coordinate with field teams, superintendents, and subcontractors
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget
- Manage billing, change orders, and client communication
Field Coordination
- Maintain strong alignment between estimating and field execution
- Support manpower planning, equipment needs, and scheduling
- Conduct site visits and stay engaged in active operations
- Drive accountability, production, and quality standards
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in dry utilities construction (power, telecom, fiber, etc.)
- Experience bidding and performing multi-million-dollar Data Center dry-utility scopes
- Proven ability to build relationships, win work, and manage projects
- Experience leading or helping grow a business line or division preferred
- Strong understanding of preconstruction, estimating, and job cost management
- Established industry relationships (highly preferred)
- Entrepreneurial mindset with strong ownership and accountability
- Proficient in estimating tools and Microsoft Excel
