Job Description – Draftsman (3D Modeling & Detailing)

Location: Houston Tx 77064

Pay: $30-$40/hr


Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Draftsman to join our client’s engineering support team. In this role, you will create and maintain detailed 3D models and drawings of complex industrial equipment components, focusing on structural, mechanical, and piping systems. You will build and manage a comprehensive 3D parts library, update existing designs, and support new component development. Responsibilities include field verification and sketching of equipment at various sites (yards, facilities, or operational locations), as well as close collaboration with engineering, fabrication, construction, and operations teams.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop accurate 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings
  • Create and maintain a centralized 3D component library
  • Update and revise existing equipment models based on field data and design changes
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams on design requirements and modifications
  • Manage personal workload to meet project timelines and deadlines
  • Establish and uphold 3D modeling standards and best practices
  • Perform on-site measurements and sketches of existing components as needed


Job Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact professionally with all levels of staff, management, and external partners
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) and industry-specific design software
  • Self-motivated with the flexibility to handle shifting priorities
  • Collaborative team player with a solutions-oriented mindset


Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 5 years of recent hands-on experience in 3D modeling and detailing using Autodesk Inventor and/or AutoCAD
  • At least 2 years of practical experience with structural steel, piping systems, and basic fabrication processes


Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Design, or Drafting
  • Background in heavy equipment, energy, or industrial manufacturing sectors
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards (AISC, API, AWS or equivalent)
