Director of Product Strategy – Distributed Products

Position Overview:

The Director of Product Strategy - Distributed Products is responsible for setting and driving product strategy for the Distributed Products portfolio, aligning market needs, operations capabilities, and commercial priorities to deliver profitable growth. Leads the Product Management function for Distributed Products (with Product Managers reporting into this role) and ensures portfolio strategy, roadmaps, and lifecycle plans are translated into disciplined execution across the business.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Distributed Products strategy and multi-year roadmap: define portfolio vision, target segments, value propositions, and positioning; translate market/competitive insights into prioritized strategic initiatives aligned to business objectives and operating capabilities; ensure product roadmaps owned by Product Management reflect the agreed strategy.
  • Lead and develop the Product Management team by setting objectives, coaching Product Managers, and ensuring a consistent, disciplined approach to product planning and execution.
  • Own portfolio governance and lifecycle decisions: establish criteria for add/retain/retire and platform standardization, drive SKU rationalization, and align Product Management execution plans with Sales, Operations & Supply Chain capabilities to optimize service levels, manufacturability, and margin
  • Drive product profitability and pricing strategy: set pricing architecture and margin improvement strategy, establish discount governance, sponsor business cases for investment and lifecycle actions, and partner with Finance/Sales/Product Management to improve realized margin and value capture.
  • Establish product requirements and market-required programs for Distributed Products. Ensure product specs and claims are accurate. Direct Product Management prioritization of compliance, certification, and documentation needs.
  • Lead the identification and prioritization of new product opportunities for Distributed Products, guide go/no‑go decisions as ideas move toward market, decide when to build internally or partner, and ensure Product Management delivers strong, strategy‑aligned product launches.



Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or related field. MBA or advanced degree an asset.
  • 10+ years progressive experience in product management/strategy, commercialization, or business leadership within civil infrastructure (e.g., water/wastewater, transportation, bridges, geosynthetics, concrete, aggregates, construction materials, or related).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and communicate portfolio strategy, roadmaps, and investment theses. Strong market research, segmentation, and competitive analysis capabilities.
  • Strong financial and business acumen (pricing, margin management, lifecycle profitability, business case development) with experience influencing senior stakeholders and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of civil infrastructure specifications, codes/standards, and owner/agency procurement drivers; credibility engaging engineers, contractors, municipalities, and channel partners.
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
