Position Summary

Saint Paul Public schools is looking to hire a new Director Of Core Business Systems as our current Director is retiring! Core Business Systems serves as the central team responsible for managing and advancing the enterprise systems that support Saint Paul Public Schools’ people and financial operations.


Acting as a strategic partner to departments across the district, the team ensures that critical business processes are reliable, scalable, and aligned with district priorities. Through the delivery, maintenance, and continuous improvement of core systems, Core Business Systems enables staff and leaders to work more efficiently, make informed decisions, and focus on what matters most—supporting students, educators, and school communities.

The Director of Core Business Systems provides leadership in planning, implementing,

maintaining, and improving the enterprise resource planning systems and infrastructures to

support distributed and centralized administrative/business functions.

Provides leadership and coordination for all aspects of business systems to Saint Paul Public

Schools (SPPS), maintaining relationships with SPPS departments and users while enforcing

high-standards to ensure consistent and reliable support within SPPS, and supports the Chief

Financial Officer in the planning and execution of a District-wide business systems services

vision, goals and initiatives that forward the mission and strategic plans of Saint Paul Public

Schools.

Responsibilities

  • The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:
  • Establish a technical vision and lead SPPS business systems development.
  • Establish a vision of seamless end-to-end user support including limited functional
  • support; create and execute plans to support vision.
  • Keep current with the latest technologies and determine what new technology solutions
  • and implementations will meet business and system requirements.
  • Assist in developing new services that provide efficiencies for SPPS constituents.
  • Work cooperatively with Finance, HR, and IT management peers in implementing and
  • supporting technology to meet the goals of SPPS and develop strategies and plans to
  • enhance client services; improve user efficiency and effectiveness; and foster
  • innovation.
  • Oversee systems development and enhancement and the integration of new
  • systems with existing systems.
  • Participate in the development of a project portfolio in support of the business system
  • needs of SPPS.
  • Negotiate and administer vendor, outsource, and consultant contracts and service
  • agreements.
  • Manage Core Business Systems staff, including hiring, training, evaluation, guidance,
  • discipline and discharge.
  • Develop the Core Business Systems staff to meet the changing needs of users, groups
  • and offices; new projects and technologies; and varying staff strengths.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and best practices, including providing
  • written protocols and guidance to Core Business Systems staff and to end-users.
  • Establish goals and strategies to support departmental and organizational mission,
  • direction and plans.
  • Ensure the creation and maintenance of all relevant written documentation,
  • including system and user manuals, license agreements, documentation of
  • modifications and upgrades as well as disaster recovery plans.
  • Establish procedures to continually and consistently assess and evaluate the
  • overarching operations of computing and information technology functions to
  • recommend and implement continuous improvement enhancements.
  • Participate in managing the financial aspects of the Core Business Services
  • Department, including purchasing, budgeting, and budget review.
  • Support SPPS' overall mission and follow all standards, policies, procedures, and
  • confidentiality guidelines.
  • Contribute to the District's Strong Schools, Strong Communities efforts by
  • partnering with other staff to contribute to student achievement and the alignment
  • and sustainability of resources.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of technical operations management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of application configuration, development and management.
  • Thorough knowledge of management principles and techniques.
  • Expert knowledge of data processing methods, procedures and computer software
  • systems consistent with industry standards.
  • Considerable knowledge of project management, business process analysis and redesign.
  • Knowledge of the development and management of large capital and operating budgets.
  • Highly proficient oral, written and presentation skills, including the ability to translate the
  • complex workings of the technology world to the level of understanding of non-technical
  • personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in business, management, management information systems, education

technology or a related field and six years of experience with increasing responsibilities for

management and support of information systems and technology in large and diverse

organization settings which must include experience in business systems planning,

organization, and development.


Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree preferred but not required.


Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule

This is a full time position working 40 hours per week.

Pay range for this position is: $118,086 - $159, 104

Maximum hiring step = step nine (9)
