Director of Property Accounting

Seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Property Accounting to lead property-level accounting operations. This role will oversee financial reporting, ensure compliance with accounting standards, and partner closely with asset management and leadership teams to drive operational excellence. The ideal candidate brings strong real estate accounting expertise, leadership experience, and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage all aspects of property accounting operations across a portfolio of assets
• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
• Review and approve financial statements, reconciliations, and variance analyses
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies
• Partner with asset management, acquisitions, and operations teams to support business initiatives
• Team management & development
• Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and other third-party service providers
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes
• Drive process improvements, system enhancements, and internal controls

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• CPA strongly preferred
• 8–12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles
• Prior experience in real estate or property accounting required
• Experience working for a VC- or private equity-backed company is a plus
• Background in public accounting is a plus
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and real estate accounting practices
• Proven ability to manage teams and cross-functional relationships
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Current or prior Yardi experience
