Position Summary

The Director of Procurement will lead strategic sourcing, supplier management, and procurement operations across a global healthcare manufacturing organization. This role is responsible for ensuring cost-effective, compliant, and uninterrupted supply of direct and indirect materials while aligning procurement strategies with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and operational excellence initiatives.

The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in pharmaceutical, medical device, or regulated manufacturing environments, with a strong focus on supplier performance, risk mitigation, and global sourcing strategy.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Sourcing & Category Management

  • Develop and execute global sourcing strategies for direct materials, APIs, excipients, packaging, and indirect spend categories
  • Drive cost optimization initiatives, including contract negotiations, supplier consolidation, and value engineering
  • Lead category management planning aligned with organizational and manufacturing priorities

Supplier Relationship Management

  • Establish and manage strategic supplier partnerships to ensure quality, reliability, and innovation
  • Oversee supplier performance metrics (KPIs), scorecards, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Lead supplier selection, qualification, and onboarding in collaboration with Quality and Regulatory teams

Procurement Operations

  • Ensure continuity of supply for manufacturing operations across multiple sites
  • Oversee procurement processes including purchase orders, contracts, and inventory alignment with demand planning
  • Implement and optimize ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Ariba) to enhance procurement efficiency and visibility

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Partner with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Finance, and R&D to support business objectives
  • Provide procurement support for new product introductions, tech transfers, and lifecycle management
  • Influence executive stakeholders with data-driven insights and strategic recommendations

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, including dual sourcing strategies and contingency planning
  • Ensure compliance with cGMP, regulatory requirements, and internal procurement policies
  • Support audit readiness and maintain proper documentation for regulatory inspections

Financial & Performance Management

  • Own procurement budget planning, cost forecasting, and savings targets
  • Track and report key metrics such as cost savings, PPV, supplier performance, and service levels
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean/Six Sigma methodologies


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field (MBA preferred)
  • 05–10+ years of procurement/supply chain experience, with at least 5+ years in leadership roles
  • Strong experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device industries (cGMP environment required)
  • Deep expertise in strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, and contract management
  • Proven leadership in managing global teams and complex supplier networks
  • Advanced proficiency in ERP systems (SAP preferred) and procurement tools (e.g., Ariba)
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
