Must Haves:
- 10+ years of experience in electric utility distribution or utility construction
- Direct experience supporting overhead and/or underground distribution projects
- Experience working with utility companies, contractors, and external crews (not solely internal facilities teams)
- Demonstrated experience managing field-based operations across multiple job sites
- Prior P&L ownership or budget responsibility
- Experience leading supervisors, field teams, or operations managers
- Ability to read and interpret distribution prints and job packages
- Strong understanding of distribution voltages (sub-transmission down through secondary)
Nice to Haves:
- Experience in contractor-led utility services environments
- Background in pole line construction, UG trenching, or distribution upgrades
- Familiarity with utility standards, right-of-way work, permitting
Day-to-Day:
Insight Global is seeking a Director of Operations in the Charlotte/Greensboro, NC market to lead field operations across overhead and underground electric distribution projects. This role is heavily focused on utility distribution infrastructure, including coordination with utility providers, contractors, and external crews supporting power delivery systems. This is not a facilities-based role. The Director will oversee work happening outside of buildings, including pole line work, underground distribution, and utility-facing construction activities. The Director will have full ownership of regional operations, including P&L, safety, execution, and client delivery. They will lead multiple Operations Managers and field teams, ensuring projects are delivered on time and in alignment with utility standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading day-to-day execution of overhead and underground distribution projects
- Managing relationships with utilities, subcontractors, and field crews
- Driving safety, quality, and production across distributed job sites
- Owning regional P&L, budgets, forecasting, and performance metrics
- Supporting job setup, planning, and field issue resolution
- Providing leadership presence in the field when needed across active work sites
