Director of Major Gifts, Individual and Family Giving
The Director of Major Gifts, Individual and Family Giving, is a key front-line Foundation fundraising leader, that is responsible for the planning, development, design, and implementation of gifts programs. This position is accountable for meeting ambitious and increasing financial goals. The Director of Major Gifts, Individual and Family Giving, will effectively manage a team of fundraisers to successfully meet annual goals; this team is anticipated to grow in the future. Additionally, this position will serve as the department service line liaison and main point of contact for all Department Chairs. This position is responsible for maintaining productivity and accountability by developing effective strategies, and metrics in conjunction with the EVP, developing work plans and tactics, ensuring they are executed successfully. The Director of Major Gifts, Individual and Family Giving, will also manage their own portfolio of prospects, which may include all levels of prospects, including those at the Principal Gifts level, and lead by example in closing gifts to support institutional priorities.
The Director will be an experienced and seasoned philanthropy leader, who will maintain effective processes for measuring progress toward goals. They will possess a keen business and tactical acumen; including the knowledge and experience to recognize and implement new opportunities for program growth, and to take action to course correct when necessary. They will be a driven, motivational leader,
able to coach and develop staff where needed and contribute to a positive and professional working culture. They will have experience within a complex organization, able to anticipate and avert issues inthe development of fundraising proposals and the expenditure of philanthropic dollars.
Requirements:
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Education:
Master's Degree
Minimum Experience Required:
A minimum of ten (10) years non-profit fundraising experience, to include the following:
Five (5) years leadership experience, to include managing no less than two (2) Major Gift Officers or equivalent
Five (5) years' experience in cancer fundraising
Demonstrated track record of closing five, six, and seven figure plus gifts
Five (5) years' experience within a complex medical research institution
Minimum Skills/Specialized Training Required:
Exceptional written and verbal communications skills
Exceptional planning and execution skills
Personal gravitas and maturity to deal with major donors
Excellent team leadership skills
Proven ability to meet ambitious financial goals
Preferred Experience:
More than 8 years development experience in a healthcare organization
Preferred Skills/Specialized Training
Experience in a grateful patient fundraising setting
