This position will be located in West Hampton, NY with re-location within first 3 months to Melville, NY.
JOB SUMMARY:
Under minimal direction, coordinates and supervises Pharmacy services including preparation and dispensing of drugs, supplies and equipment, preparation of sterile products and clinical pharmacy services.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for overall functioning of the pharmacy of the branch.
- Supervises pharmacy staff.
- Directs, coordinates and supervises all pharmacy activities including management of the clean room drug preparation, sterile products preparation, dispensation and clinical pharmacy services.
- Works to facilitate and coordinate pharmacy operations.
- Participates in the procurement of drugs, supplies and equipment used in preparing and administering drugs.
- Performs duties of the clinical pharmacist as necessary.
- Maintains clinical skills and knowledge of pharmacotherapy and intravenous therapy by reviewing the literature and attending in-services, seminars and conferences. Disseminating knowledge to clinical staff.
- Performs marketing support, including but not limited to finding new referral partners, as requested.
- Performs oversight of department’s performance improvement initiatives and coordinates department QA activities for pharmacy.
- Participates in recruitment and hiring of potential new pharmacy personnel with the VP of Pharmacy.
- Performs performance reviews, at least annually, on pharmacy staff.
- Participates/coordinates orientation and training of pharmacy and other organizational employees.
- Participates in branch management and inter-departmental meetings as required.
- Coordinates/participates in departmental meetings as scheduled.
- Prepares and submits management reports as required.
- Participates in development of the branch budget for pharmacy operations.
- Guides pharmacy toward achievement of monthly, quarterly and annual projections based on financial and management objectives.
- Follows established channels of authority and communications throughout the organization.
- Maintains on-call schedule for pharmacists. Covers pharmacy calls and time off, as needed.
- In the absence of VP of Pharmacy, will have the authorization to act as the manager/leader of the branch.
- Acts as the Performance Improvement Coordinator.
- Performs special tasks or projects as requested.
- Responsible for all staff competencies being up to date as well as licensure and registration.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Possess a strong knowledge base in intravenous admixture and clinical aspects of home infusion therapy.
- Possess the necessary supervisory/management skills and/or experience to supervise the pharmacy aspects of home infusion therapy.
- Must have the ability to work effectively with others as part of a team.
- Must have the ability to communicate, both verbally and written, with patients, clients, management and other employees.
- Must have the ability to plan and solve problems.
- Possess good organizational and time-management skills.
- Dependable in attendance and job performance.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- A Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (Doctor of Pharmacy desirable) from an accredited college of pharmacy.
- Current and unrestricted Pharmacist license in the state of practice.
- Possess a minimum of two years pharmacy and nursing operations and clinical pharmacy experience in home infusion therapy.
- Possesses retail pharmacy experience and has experience in growing clientele base.
