The Opportunity:
Alamo Fireworks is hiring a Director of Asset Operations as a key leadership role across the organization. This is not a siloed role. You will be responsible for a wide range of operational, legal, technology, and vendor matters.
This role is designed for a mid-career ops generalist with demonstrated leadership experience who is ready to take on significant responsibility and grow into a cornerstone of the senior leadership team. You will report to the Chief Operating Officer and work closely with ownership.
If you thrive in fast-moving environments, enjoy solving problems across functions, and want a role where your impact is visible from day one, this is it.
Who We Are:
Alamo Fireworks is a top consumer-grade fireworks retailer in Texas with a mission to enable families to create happy memories each holiday through the safe use of fireworks. We conduct our business with a core set of values reflecting determination, grit, and integrity in all that we do. We strive to improve our operations every season, as success always brings more opportunities for growth.
What You’ll Do:
Product Management
- Own the end-to-end product strategy for Alamo Fireworks' retail assortment: what SKUs to carry, when and in what quantities to buy, and how products are packaged and presented to customers.
- Develop and maintain a seasonal buying calendar, coordinating purchase orders with suppliers ahead of peak holiday seasons (4th of July, New Year's, etc.) to optimize inventory levels and margin.
- Evaluate product quality through direct vendor engagement and product testing, ensuring every SKU meets Alamo's safety standards and customer experience expectations.
- Analyze sales data and customer feedback to drive assortment decisions (additions, discontinuations, and reorders) partnering with the Data Scientist on relevant reporting.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and supply agreements with product vendors; periodically assess new suppliers to keep existing relationships competitive.
- Stay current on consumer fireworks trends, competitor assortments, and Texas regulatory changes that may affect what can legally be carried and sold.
People & Cross-Functional Leadership
- Work with and manage a Data Scientist, serving as a project resource for the wider team, triaging workload and quality-controlling final product outcomes.
- Meet weekly with both the RE Team and Accounting Team separately, utilizing EOS methodology and Monday.com boards for project management and accountability.
- Partner closely with the Chief Operating Officer, CFO, and ownership on cross-functional initiatives, strategic decisions, and day-to-day operational execution.
Real Estate & Legal
- Maintain and periodically audit all leases and sub-leases executed on properties the companies own and are leasing as tenants; review and ensure leases meet company standards prior to execution.
- Directly supervise the RE Development Manager's calling activity for new leased locations and responses to inquiries regarding sub-leasing company-owned locations.
- Coordinate with legal counsel as needed on real estate, operator, and regulatory matters.
Technology, Vendor & Insurance Management
- Oversee IT operations and related staff, ensuring technological execution, uptime, and compliance across all locations, including management of the IT and telephone contract to ensure Wi-Fi connectivity and billing accuracy.
- Periodically issue RFPs for key services and contracts including IT support, CPA audit, and security.
- Evaluate and execute the annual renewal of the combined P&C/Auto and Workers Compensation insurance policies.
- Negotiate and monitor contracts with utility companies in de-regulated energy markets.
- Cultivate external relationships to maintain a strong network of resources and vendors.
Must-haves in a Candidate:
- 5-10 years of experience in operations, business management, or a related field, with at least 2-3 years in a people management or team leadership capacity.
- A true generalist mindset, comfortable context-switching between technology, real estate, legal coordination, vendor management, and people leadership.
- Strong communicator who can hold their own in conversations with lawyers, bankers, vendors, and internal teams alike.
- Hungry to grow: this role has significant upside for the right person who wants to take on more responsibility over time.
- Based in San Antonio; this is a fully on-site role with the expectation of full-time in-office presence.
Nice-to-haves in a Candidate:
- LOVES fireworks, we want to create happy memories for our customers and loving what we sell is how we do that.
