1. Review each instructor’s lesson plans and other instructional materials for conformance to Commission standards and to minimize repetition and duplication of subject matter.
2. Administer the course delivery in accordance with Commission procedures and standards, give consider advisory guidelines issued by the Commission, and ensure that the training offered is safe and effective.
3. Select and schedule instructors who are certified by the Commission.
4. Provide each instructor with a current commission-approved course outline and all necessary additional concerning the instructor’s duties and responsibilities.
5. Arrange for the timely availability of appropriate audiovisual aids and materials, publications, facilities, and equipment for training in all topic areas.
6. Formalize and schedule the course curriculum in accordance with the curriculum standards.
7. Maintain direct supervision, direction, and control over the performance of all persons to whom any portion of the planning, development, presentation, or administration of a course has been delegated.
8. Report the completion of each presentation of a Commission-accredited criminal justice training course to the Commission.
9. Maintains records of attendance/grades in the college’s learning management system.
10. Maintains strict compliance with NC Law Enforcement Training and Standards Commission record keeping and other state, federal, and college standards.
11. Assists in the planning, budgeting, and use of departmental funds.
12. Establishes and/or maintains robust partnerships with “customer” law enforcement agencies.
13. Identifies needs and develops plans and projections for future academy growth or organizational improvements.
14. Demonstrate professionalism, fairness, and honesty in all aspects of the performance of duties. Provide leadership based on ethics and principles as they relate to the functions and operations of the Police Academy.
15. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
16. Contributes to the College Vision, Mission, and Values.
· High school graduate and five years of practical experience as a law enforcement officer or an administrator or specialist in a field related to law enforcement in North Carolina.
· Valid NC Driver’s License
· Currently be Basic Law Enforcement and GI School Director certified by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Standards Commission or be eligible to attain these credentials.
Preferred Requirements:
Attend or must have attended the most current offering of the school director’s orientation as developed and presented by the Commission staff, otherwise an individual orientation with a staff member may be required. Candidate would have a working knowledge of coordinating and managing a law enforcement training program
Direction Received: Reports to Director of Law Enforcement Training
Direction Given: Responsible for monitoring, directing, and supervising the work of PT adjuncts, non-faculty staff and/or other employees. This includes but is not limited to the Qualified Assistant or other administrative personnel.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:
· Plans, organizes, and directs all activities of the Basic Law Enforcement Training Academy.
· Provides leadership and guidance to the training staff in establishing and achieving goals and objectives; advertises for, selects, trains, and evaluates staff.
· Conducts supervisory staff meetings as necessary to communicate policy and program changes; and regularly attends basic school staff meetings.
· Monitors instructor performance, taking corrective action when deemed necessary.
· Provides specialized training for academy instructors; ensures accuracy of time and attendance.
Working Conditions:
· Director, Basic Law Enforcement (BLET) School is available in the Basic Law Enforcement Training Department located at the Merancas Campus in the Claudia Watkins Building.
· Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 7:00am - 6:00pm. Evenings as needed, some Saturdays
· Hours per Week: 40
