The salary range above represents this position’s earning potential. The anticipated hiring range for this position will be $95,788 per year to $132,671 per year, based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.


WHO WE ARE


The Montgomery County Department of Correction and Rehabilitation (DOCR) is responsible for the intake, reception, and diagnostic functions, including law enforcement processing of adult male and female offenders arrested in Montgomery County. Responsibility also includes the custody and care of male and female offenders who are either in a pre-trial status or serving sentences of up to 18 months. Progressive and comprehensive correctional services and programs are provided to all incarcerated individuals, covering substance abuse treatment, mental health issues, cognitive behavioral modification programs, education, life skills, and workforce development.



WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR


Montgomery County Department of Correction and Rehabilitation (DOCR) is seeking candidates for the position ofManager III, Deputy Warden of the Montgomery County Detention Center.

This position, in collaboration with other DOCR management staff, is held accountable to ensure the primacy of public safety through strict adherence to well-defined and fully accountable security programs. Availability for 24/7 access to MCDC and participation on all shifts through a clear program of staff engagement is mandatory for this position.

Leadership within the DOCR for adherence to national/state standards for correctional operations and maintenance of national accreditation is required. This position will interface with the community, including attending community meetings, collaborating with local neighborhoods, and the City of Rockville, MD.

The Deputy Warden of the Montgomery County Detention Center (MCDC) is responsible for the day-to-day management, leadership, and coordination of all criminal justice agencies and programs at the MCDC located in Rockville, MD. The Deputy Warden of MCDC works in collaboration with other Department Leaders and partnering Montgomery County Agencies to track the progress of capital and operating projects, ensuring that established key facility and operating metrics are achieved. MCDC is primarily responsible for the intake and processing of adult male and female offenders arrested within the County and has a facility capacity to accommodate approximately 200 inmates. Major program elements at the MCDC include the Central Processing Unit (over 15,000 offenders per year), Intake, Booking and Release, Pre-Trial Assessment, Records Management, Behavioral Health Screening and Assessment, Correctional Health Screening, Public Defender Interviews, interfacing with numerous law enforcement agencies, and critical daily support of all District Court Commissioner operations.


This position must lead in both on-the-floor management of line operation and public policy planning and development at every level of correctional operations in Montgomery County, MD

  • Basic budget development and management.
  • Staff mentoring and supervision.
  • Security operations; Managing program elements critical for the constitutional practice of correctional operation in the county/local correctional setting.

Candidate must successfully complete the Maryland Correctional Training Academy Entry-Level Program, First Line Supervisor, and possess a Certificate of successful completion within 12 months of hire. Must maintain and successfully complete additional State-mandated and Departmental Correctional training as required.


The individual selected for this position will be considered an Essential Employee. Essential employees must report to work during a period of general emergency or liberal leave, including holidays and inclement weather.


The incumbent in this position is required to file a financial disclosure.


Prior to a promotional appointment within DOCR, the selected individual must answer the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) questions and submit to a criminal history to comply with the Prevention Planning on Hiring and Promotion Decisions (115.17, 115.117, 115.217, 115.317). This is a requirement to meet Federal law and audit standards.
