Under immediate supervision, receives instruction in assigned curriculum of the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office approved law enforcement academy and participates in training exercises designed to simulate situations encountered by a Washoe County Deputy Sheriff and performs related work as required.

Must meet Nevada Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) requirements per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC) 289.110 as listed below:
A person may not be appointed to perform the duties of a peace officer if he or she has:
License or Certificate
A valid Nevada Class C driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.
Upon successful completion of the PPRT (POST Physical Readiness Test) and on-line exam, selected Candidates must:Washoe County hires all new employees at the minimum rate of the salary range and eligible employees may receive an annual merit increase of 5% until they reach the maximum salary for the classification. Upon promotion, current Washoe County employees are placed at the minimum rate of the salary range for the higher classification of the new position OR a promotional calculation, whichever is greater.

PPRT’s are tentatively scheduled to be held at least once per quarter, with the first PPRT tentatively taking place on Sunday, January 25, 2026.

3. Applicants who pass the PPRT will receivean email invitation to take the Deputy Sheriff/Recruitonline exam administered remotely.
This exam link will tentatively be delivered via email the week after the PPRT and qualified candidates will have a time limit to complete the exam, within 4 calendar days. **You will be notified if you are eligible to transfer an exam score within 1 week following the closing date of the recruitment.
