About the Position

As a key leader within the New York Executive Chamber, the Deputy Director of Security & Intelligence serves under the Director of Security & Intelligence to lead strategy, coordination, and policy development for security, intelligence, and the state's defense industrial base and national security technology ecosystems.

Reporting directly to the Director of Security & Intelligence, this role is critical in ensuring that threats to New York’s residents, visitors, and businesses are met with a coordinated, whole-of-state response. The Deputy Director also coordinates the development and execution of policies across agencies designed to catalyze investment in New York’s defense and security sectors, including the defense industrial base, drone and counter-drone technologies, and other emerging national security manufacturing initiatives.

The Deputy Director works in close coordination with leadership across the Executive Chamber, senior agency staff throughout New York State government, the private sector, nonprofits, and academia to ensure a unified approach to complex security challenges.


This position is 100% onsite at our office in either Albany, NY or New York City, NY.

Travel between NYC and Albany, throughout NYS, and to Washington D.C. and other locations will be required.


Duties

  • Assists in managing the state’s comprehensive security and intelligence portfolio.
  • Prepare written and verbal briefings for the Governor and senior staff on security and intelligence topics.
  • Coordinates with other members of the Executive Chamber and senior agency leadership to synchronize the State’s defenses against the full spectrum of hybrid threats to public safety and critical infrastructure.
  • Coordinates, advocates, and develops policies to further investment in New York’s defense and security industries, including drone, counter-drone, and other national security technologies.
  • Develops forward-looking policies to ensure New York remains a national leader in defense innovation, manufacturing, and technological development.
  • Works closely with federal partners, elected officials, and local agencies to ensure coordination across all levels of government.
  • Prepares and reviews high-impact position papers, briefing materials, legislative proposals, budget initiatives, and executive speeches as required.
  • Performs related duties as required.


Knowledge & Skills

  • Experience in national defense, intelligence, or security operations and communicating nuanced concepts to decision makers.
  • Proven ability in leading distributed, cross-functional teams and navigating sensitive multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Exceptional record of inter-agency coordination and policy development.


Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree and at least 7+ years of full-time, professional experience with a focus on public administration, public policy, or related topics.
  • A Master’s degree in a related field or Juris Doctor may substitute for one year of this experience.


Employment with the New York State Executive Chamber is contingent upon the successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation.


Preferred Qualifications

Ability to hold and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.


Pay & Benefits

Salary: $185,000-$200,000
