TheMichigan Department of Civil Rights(MDCR)has one of the most important roles in state government – so important that theMichigan Civil Rights Commission(MCRC)is enshrined in the Michigan Constitution: to investigate allegations of unlawful discrimination and to secure the equal protection of civil rights. MDCR was created in 1965 to carry out the work of the Commission.
MDCR is an administrative law enforcement agency with investigative and enforcement authority. The Enforcement Process includes all of the tasks performed when a customer interacts with MDCR about a civil rights-related need or concern, including investigation and resolution of complaints of discrimination, outreach and education, and community engagement. This position serves as a first point of contact for customers who are seeking to file a discrimination complaint. The work environment is fast paced, deals with diverse populations of people and entails contacting claimants to assess civil rights concerns as well as writing allegations of discrimination into a civil rights complaint.
This position generally requires the education acquired through completion of high school and one year of administrative experience.
