The University of South Alabama’s Department of Biology invites applications for a one-year (9-month), non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology position, starting August 15, 2026. Qualifications include a Ph.D. in Biology or closely related field with 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline, evidence of ability to engage students through active learning and experiential laboratory activities. Prior teaching experience a must. The successful candidate must be able to work legally in the United States without visa sponsorship.

We seek an enthusiastic, engaging educator committed to dynamic teaching and the implementation of best practices, including inquiry-based, active learning approaches in classroom and laboratory settings.

The successful candidate will teach four courses (12 contact hours) per semester that include introductory majors and nonmajors curricula, as well as upper-level electives in General Microbiology or Molecular Microbiology, Herpetology, and Conservation Biology.

The University of South Alabama is a comprehensive, state-supported institution with over 14,000 students. The Department of Biology has the largest major in the College of Arts and Sciences, with 12 full-time faculty members and offers Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science degrees in Biology.
