We are seeking a hands-on Deli Manager to lead daily operations of a mission-driven deli operated by Haymarket Center. This deli serves as a training site for individuals entering the workforce, providing real-world food service experience and pathways to long-term employment.


This role is ideal for a food service professional who values mentorship, community impact, and strong operational execution.


The Manager of Mac’s Deli at Haymarket Center provides leadership and vision to expand Mac’s Deli at Haymarket Center. The Manager, Mac’s Deli works to ensure high food quality, service delivery, and profitability, and help to create a diverse, professional, and inclusive learning environment for transitional workers who are clients of Haymarket Center programs. The Manager will interview and hire new transitional worker staff. The role will help clients enrolled in the supported employment program living with substance use disorders and mental health conditions articulate their interests, values, and skills. The role will assist these clients with obtaining transferable skills and securing PT or FT competitive employment in the community. The role will report directly to the Manager, Supported Employment Center.


This is a full-time restaurant management and supported employment role within an urban addictions treatment center serving those with substance use disorders and mental health conditions.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily deli operations (food prep, service, quality, and cleanliness)
  • Train and coach clients in food service skills and workplace readiness
  • Manage POS systems, inventory, ordering, and cost control
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation standards
  • Build relationships with West Loop restaurants and food vendors to support job placement opportunities
  • Maintain a positive, structured, and team-oriented environment




Requirements

  • 2–3+ years of experience in deli, restaurant, or food service management
  • Strong culinary and food preparation skills
  • Experience with POS systems and inventory management
  • Passion for mentoring and developing others
  • Ability to build relationships within the West Loop restaurant community
  • Must have a valid City of Chicago food safety and sanitation certification.
  • Must have retail management experience in the food service industry.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age due to equipment use and work environment.
