Responsible for all electrical maintenance activities of the power plant including, but not limited to, troubleshooting, testing, maintenance, calibration, and proper operation of all electrical systems at the Generation Facility, in accordance with applicable laws and City of Denton and department policies and procedures.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

DUTIES
  • Perform day-to-day power plant electrical maintenance activities to ensure the safe and compliant tasks including, but not limited to, pulls cable, install and bend conduit, perform basic machine tool operations and mechanical repairs using appropriate tools, perform burning and heating tasks using an oxy-acetylene torch, solder electronic components, complete rigging, install wiring, conduit, fixtures, transformers, and other electrical devices appropriately necessary for the proper and safe operation of electrical systems, circuits, and equipment, and connect, disconnect, and LOTO (lock-out/tag-out) equipment and circuits for test or repair.
  • Install, build, and/or modify plant electrical, instrument, and control equipment as directed by the DEC Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Perform proper low voltage (LV), medium voltage (MV), and high voltage (HV) proper grounding throughout the facility; coordinate and/or oversee HV and other activities with leadership and contractors in maintenance and repair of electrical equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, inspect, test, maintain, repair, clean, and calibrate instrumentation and solid state and microprocessor-based control equipment including, but not limited to, plant communications equipment, programmable controllers, distributive control systems, generator excitation equipment, battery chargers, and semi-conductor devices.
  • Troubleshoot, inspect, test, maintain, repair, and clean electrical equipment including, but not limited to, circuit breakers, motor operated valves, alternative current and direct current (AC & DC) motors and controllers, switches, solenoid valves, and rectifiers.
  • Perform calibration of plant emissions monitoring equipment; use testing equipment including, but not limited to, recorders, computers, control and tuning modules, PC-based software analyzer programs, oscilloscopes, data analyzers, logic test equipment, and analog and digital multi-meters to identify problems, maintain and calibrate equipment to performance standards.
  • Assist with developing preventive and predictive maintenance procedures for plant electrical control equipment; perform routine inspections to ensure compliance with national electrical codes, City of Denton and department safety and operational policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Ensure safe and efficient use of materials, tools, and test equipment; monitor activities in the vicinity to ensure personal and others’ safety.
  • Maintain plant, shop, and storage areas; clean work area after work is complete.

  • High School diploma or equivalent; and,
  • Four (4) years’ experience in electric generating facilities, general industry electrical maintenance services, or related field,

  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts including probability and statistical inference, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry, concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and/or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to interpret complex detailed electrical, electronic, and pneumatic drawings and prints.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Must have and maintain a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law)
  • Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, employment history verification, and social security number verification.
  • Must pass a physical examination.
SAFETY
  • Ensure equipment is in safe operating condition; perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment, as appropriate and/or notify leadership immediately of needed repairs.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing; operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Promptly report unsafe conditions in the work area and/or any conditions that are not immediately correctable to leadership.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Safety Sensitive (Subject to random drug testing): Yes.
  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; use of hand and power tools, hydraulic and manual conduit benders, electrical testing and electrical safety equipment, and use of motor vehicle; wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Posture: Prolonged sitting, standing, stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions including reaching; occasional keyboarding and use of mouse.
  • Lifting: Lifting no more than 50 pounds and carrying up to 25 pounds.
  • Environment: Works in an indoor office/shop setting and occasionally outside with exposure to sun, heat, cold, humidity, and inclement weather, noise, dust, no/low light, confined spaces, mold, gases, chemicals, fumes, odors, heights, potentially hazardous conditions, uneven ground, and rough terrain; occasionally requires irregular and/or prolonged hours.
  • Travel: Travel to City of Denton buildings and professional meetings as required.
  • Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position. Must be able to work overtime, as needed. Must be able to respond to call-in within 30 minutes and be responsible for call when your name comes up on rotation list. Must be available to be on stand-by and work emergency callouts. Must attend regularly scheduled and special meetings.
