Job Title: Data Center Operations Technician (Long-Term Contract, Onsite – Phoenix, AZ)
Overview
We are seeking a Data Center Operations Technician to support a large-scale transition from internally managed data centers to a co-location service model. This is a long-term contract role based onsite in Phoenix, AZ, supporting a growing data center footprint in the southwestern United States.
In this role, you will be part of a standardized, enterprise-grade data center operations function supporting multiple facilities across the U.S. While aligned with a third-party service provider for day-to-day operations, you will work closely with the internal Data Center Operations Management team to ensure consistency, reliability, and operational excellence.
This position is ideal for someone with strong hands-on experience in physical infrastructure, cabling, and data center environments who is comfortable working in a structured, process-driven setting.
Environment & Infrastructure
- Enterprise data center environment supporting multiple U.S. locations
- Mix of converged and hyperconverged platforms (Dell/EMC, VMware, Cisco)
- Approximately 10,000 sq. ft. data center facilities
- Expansion into a new southwestern U.S. data center (Phoenix area)
Key Responsibilities
- Perform physical patching and cabling for servers, network devices, and infrastructure components
- Install and maintain structured cabling systems including patch panels, fiber boxes, and trunk cables
- Troubleshoot and repair copper and fiber cabling issues
- Support hardware installations, moves, adds, and changes (IMAC activities)
- Conduct inventory management, asset tracking, and logistics coordination
- Track and manage in-transit equipment and update asset systems accordingly
- Maintain cable stock and supplies; notify stakeholders when replenishment is required
- Perform routine on-site health checks, including visual inspections and system status reviews
- Provide “Smart Hands” support, including:
- Rebooting systems
- Replacing Customer Replaceable Units (CRUs)
- Handling RMA processes (receipt, install, return of failed parts)
- Escort third-party vendors (e.g., telecom engineers) within the data center
- Assist L3 engineering teams with troubleshooting hardware and infrastructure issues
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and overall data center housekeeping standards
Required Skills & Experience
- Hands-on experience in a data center operations or infrastructure support role
- Strong understanding of physical network troubleshooting (Layer 1)
- Knowledge of structured cabling standards (copper and fiber)
- Familiarity with data center power and cooling systems
- Experience supporting enterprise hardware environments
- Ability to follow strict processes and documentation standards
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Preferred Experience
- Experience with Dell/EMC infrastructure
- Familiarity with VMware environments
- Exposure to Cisco networking hardware
- Prior experience in financial services or other highly regulated environments
Work Environment
- 100% onsite in Phoenix, AZ
- Long-term contract engagement
- May require coordination with teams across multiple U.S. time zones
- Work performed in a live data center environment (noise, temperature variation, and physical activity required)
