Job Title: BIM Designer
Job Description

The BIM Designer will support complex technology and low-voltage projects by producing high-quality construction documents and detailed Revit models for data center and related mission-critical facilities. This role focuses on modeling technology systems, including security, AV, Wi-Fi, and IT infrastructure, and creating parametric Revit families and smart schedules to support the full construction document phase. You will collaborate closely with technology engineering teams to deliver accurate, coordinated BIM models that meet Level of Development (LOD) 200–400 standards.

Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed technology construction drawings using Revit in alignment with project standards and client requirements.
  • Model construction plans, details, and coordinated views for technology and low-voltage systems within Revit.
  • Create and maintain parametric Revit families and content at LOD 200–400 to support data center and mission-critical projects.
  • Develop and manage smart schedules, tags, and annotations to ensure accurate quantities and coordinated documentation.
  • Support the design and modeling of technology systems, including security systems, audio/visual systems, Wi-Fi, and IT infrastructure.
  • Contribute to BIM coordination efforts using tools such as Navisworks to identify and resolve clashes and design conflicts.
  • Work within the construction document phase to translate design intent into clear, buildable documentation.
  • Collaborate with technology engineering, MEP, and electrical stakeholders to ensure models align with overall project requirements.
  • Apply BIM best practices for low- and medium-voltage design within data centers and other technology-intensive facilities.
  • Incorporate feedback from project teams to refine models, families, and documentation for improved accuracy and efficiency.
  • Participate in initial training to learn established Revit systems, families, and internal standards, and apply this knowledge to active projects.
  • Leverage internal tools and resources, including Revit efficiency tools, to improve modeling quality and productivity.
  • Support a rapidly growing portfolio of data center projects by delivering consistent, high-quality BIM output on schedule.
Essential Skills
  • At least 5 years of professional BIM experience in a design, construction, or technology-focused environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working within the technology space for data center projects.
  • Strong proficiency in Revit, with the ability to independently produce detailed construction documents and coordinated models.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and modeling low-voltage and technology systems in Revit.
  • Hands-on experience with BIM workflows and tools, including Revit, BIM platforms, AutoCAD, and Navisworks.
  • Experience supporting technology engineering projects involving security systems, AV, Wi-Fi, and IT infrastructure.
  • Background working in the construction document phase, ideally within a design firm or with a contracting Background focused on documentation.
  • Ability to model and manage Revit content at LOD 200–400, including the creation of parametric families and smart schedules.
  • Strong understanding of construction documents, design coordination, and modeling standards for technology and low-voltage systems.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working in technology engineering firms, MEP engineering firms, or electrical contracting environments.
  • Background in mission-critical or data center projects and familiarity with their unique technical requirements.
  • Exposure to telecommunications and low/medium-voltage design in complex building environments.
  • Comfort collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including mission-critical and technology engineering professionals.
  • Interest in ongoing professional development through structured training programs and internal learning resources.
  • Ability to adapt to established BIM standards and contribute ideas to improve modeling workflows and tools.
Work Environment

This role offers a fully remote work environment, with all necessary equipment shipped directly to you. You do not need to be local to the Chicago area; however, if you are local, you will work in the office on Tuesdays and connect to Revit and Bluebeam systems remotely for the remainder of the week. You will join a technology-focused engineering organization of roughly 40 employees, with about half dedicated to mission-critical work and data center projects. The team typically produces Level 300 models and focuses on technology-oriented designs for complex buildings, including audio/visual systems, security systems, IT infrastructure, telecommunications, and low/medium-voltage design. The first week includes structured training to introduce you to the company’s Revit systems, families, and standards, supported by an internal program called EPlus Design University. You will also benefit from a dedicated Revit efficiency team that develops custom tools to enhance modeling productivity and quality. The workload is heavily centered on current and upcoming data center projects, providing exposure to a rapidly growing and technically advanced segment of the industry.
