Job Responsibilities

The Database & Data Platform Administrator is an integral part of the IT department. This position is a blend of traditional database administrator responsibilities and Microsoft Azure data platform administration. The role owns the administration, governance, and ongoing optimization of Microsoft SQL Server, Power BI, and Microsoft Fabric across on‑premises and Azure environments—ensuring platform stability, security, performance, and recoverability. The position partners with stakeholders to enable reliable self‑service reporting, analytics, and data integrations.

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following tasks:

  • Administer and govern Microsoft SQL Server platforms across on‑premises and Azure‑hosted environments. Responsibilities include environment configuration and maintenance, performance tuning, security and access controls, backup and recovery, and planning and execution of database migrations to Azure‑hosted platforms.
  • Administer and govern Power BI platforms, including Power BI Service (Online) and on‑premises Power BI Report Server. Responsibilities include dataset and semantic model management, refresh processes, security and access controls, and execution of migrations to Power BI Service and Microsoft Fabric workspaces.
  • Administer and govern the Microsoft Fabric platform to support enterprise reporting, analytics, and AI initiatives. Responsibilities include workspace management, data organization, and platform configuration.
  • Design, build, and support data integration and ETL processes to enable system integrations, reporting, analytics, and other data-driven initiatives.
  • Partner directly with business stakeholders to support operational, financial, and analytical reporting needs. Provide guidance, best practices, and training to enable effective and responsible self‑service reporting and dashboard development.
  • Collaborate with IT leadership and software development teams to support AI and data analytics initiatives, delivering data-driven solutions and integrations using the Microsoft cloud ecosystem.
  • Comply with Seneca’s EHSQ policies, standards and procedures and demonstrate active and regular involvement in EHSQ programs.

Job Qualifications

  • Deep expertise administering and governing enterprise‑scale Microsoft SQL Server and Power BI platforms across both on‑premises and Azure environments, including strong proficiency with T‑SQL and experience designing, supporting, and troubleshooting enterprise reports, dashboards, and semantic models (Power BI and SSRS).
  • Experience migrating databases from on-premises environments to Azure.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Fabric and its role in enterprise reporting, analytics, and AI solutions within the Microsoft cloud ecosystem.
  • Top-notch problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical and data issues.
  • Effective communicator, able to collaborate with technical and non-technical audiences with ability to provide training and guidance to the user community.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, data science, computer information systems, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience administering Microsoft SQL Server and Power BI in enterprise environments.
  • Oil and gas industry experience (strongly preferred).
