Job Title: DB2 for z/OS Database Administrator (DBA)

Location: Marysville, OH

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced DB2 for z/OS Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team in Marysville, OH. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing and optimizing DB2 for z/OS environments within large enterprise organizations, supporting mission-critical production systems that require high availability and performance. This role involves database administration, performance tuning, maintenance, monitoring, troubleshooting, and collaboration with application teams to ensure reliable and efficient database operations.


Key Responsibilities


  • Collaborate with application teams to understand business and technical requirements and recommend database solutions and strategic approaches for new initiatives and enhancements.
  • Serve as the primary DBA contact during application onboarding, upgrades, migrations, and major system enhancements.
  • Monitor and optimize DB2 subsystem performance, including CPU utilization, I/O performance, buffer pools, locking, and SQL query execution.
  • Analyze and resolve database performance issues using tools such as Omegamon, EXPLAIN, RMF, SMF, and native DB2 utilities.
  • Perform SQL performance tuning, query optimization, and index management in partnership with application development teams.
  • Fine-tune database systems to improve performance, scalability, reliability, and availability.
  • Plan and execute DB2 maintenance activities, including PTF implementations, service packs, and version upgrades.
  • Utilize monitoring tools to track database health, performance metrics, capacity trends, and security events.
  • Configure and manage alerts to proactively identify and address potential database issues.
  • Implement and maintain database backup, recovery, logging, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Ensure compliance with SOX controls, audit requirements, and database security best practices.
  • Proactively identify risks, recommend improvements, and contribute to continuous enhancement of database environments.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including application development, infrastructure, security, and operations teams.


Required Qualifications


  • 5–10 years of hands-on experience as a DB2 for z/OS DBA in large enterprise environments.
  • Strong experience supporting critical production systems with 24x7 availability requirements.
  • Deep knowledge of DB2 for z/OS architecture, subsystems, utilities, logging, recovery, and performance management.
  • Extensive experience with SQL performance tuning and execution plan analysis.
  • Strong expertise in database utilities, maintenance, backup, and recovery processes.
  • Experience with DB2 monitoring and performance tools such as Omegamon.
  • Solid understanding of mainframe technologies and z/OS concepts, including:
  • JCL (Job Control Language)
  • Datasets
  • Batch Processing
  • Job Scheduling
  • Experience working on large-scale enterprise projects and coordinating across multiple teams.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
