Data Center Energy Infrastructure Team Leader

WSP USA is seeking an Energy Infrastructure Data Center Leader to join our Power & Energy Advanced Complimentary Services (ACS) team. The selected candidate may be assigned to any WSP USA office. This is a unique opportunity to take on a key leadership role in shaping and delivering complex energy infrastructure projects in the data center market. You will help WSP fully leverage the capabilities of all Power & Energy teams to meet critical energy challenges in the U.S. market.  

This Opportunity 

This seller-doer leadership position focuses on engaging with clients directly and creating fast tiger teams to solve the upfront energy challenges created by data centers of all sizes. You will have the ability to grow an internal team as well as work across business lines and verticals. This is a fast paced, quick turn environment where previous experience as a developer or working with developers is critical. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Client Engagement: Collaborate with Business Development teams, Sector Leaders, and Global Client Program (GCP) to identify and pursue high-value opportunities. Represent WSP in front of a variety of data center and energy clients. 
  • Solution Development: Listen to client needs and assemble multidisciplinary WSP teams—including international resources—to deliver holistic, responsive solutions.
  • Team Building: Build a team from scratch to 5+senior project/engineering professionals to meet market demand. These team members will be internal and external hires, with the following possible roles:
    • Senior Substation Engineer
    • Junior Substation Engineer
    • T-Line / Interconnection Specialist
    • MV Distribution Specialist
    • Studies Engineer
  • Project Delivery Leadership: Act as Principal-In-Charge, providing technical oversight and leadership for early phase project development support and Owner’s Engineer (OE) services for clients developing and procuring infrastructure.
  • Market Advancement: Drive WSP’s market growth objectives through cross-business line development, team leadership, and operational excellence.

 Operational Excellence

  • Maintain regular contact with other business lines and interested WSP parties to ensure they are aware of and can engage ACS to support their clients and project development as opportunities arise.
  • Collaborate with leadership to strategically drive the business, assess, and suggest improvements for project performance, oversee overhead expenditures, and focus on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):  Sales, Funding, EBITDA, Staff Hiring and Retention, DSO, Utilization, Backlog, Inclusion & Belonging and Guiding Principles.
  • Develop growth strategy and revenue forecast in collaboration with Team Leads, Business Development, Operations and Leadership. 
  • Resolve conflicts and other internal/external issues that may arise within teams, amongst WSP’s client base, or on projects.

 Expertise

  • The ideal candidate for this role brings significant experience working with data center developers on energy challenges. Experience with HV substations, complex load/generation developments, and interconnections is preferred.
  • Experience in growing teams of electrical engineers, plus other complimentary disciplines. Encourage, support, and promote the technical and professional development of local WSP staff.
  • Leverage WSP’s broad technical experience to enhance current and new service offerings.
  • Partner with broader WSP teams participating in strategy formation and business development.
  • Foster the development of new and emerging innovations to remain the trusted thought leaders in our industry.
  • Advance the strategic direction of the US business for sustained and continued growth consistent with the strategic plan.

 

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 12+ years of experience with a college degree or equivalent experience in the engineering consulting industry (or similar) with a strong focus/background in the energy and infrastructure value chain.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related discipline
  • Engineering license required. 
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with diligence, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Strongly established relevant client relationships and industry contacts. 
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs.
  • Travel will be required to support employee engagement, clients, and/or sector activities.

Compensation: 

Expected Salary (all locations): $139,800-$249,150

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
