Hangar A, LLC, is a leading e-logistics automation and services company. Hangar A has developed the industry's first purpose-built, dock-to-door Express Air Cargo Delivery Network - providing next day and 2-day express nationwide shipping for eCommerce shippers. This network is powered by Hangar A's proprietary Express Cargo Management System (eCMS) - a world class operating platform and visibility solution which utilizes "middle mile" commercial air zone skipping to provide a fast, secure, and affordable alternative for next day and 2-day express cargo shipping.
ABOUT THIS ROLE
Hanga A is building a platform that competes directly with the two dominant players in expedited shipping. In this space, the companies that win are the ones that understand what is happening to every shipment, on every lane, in close to real time, and act on it faster than the competition.
Our TMS, carrier connections, scan feeds, and warehouse systems are already in place and producing data. Your job is to bring that data together into a unified data lake that serves as a single source of truth, and then to build the intelligence layer on top of it. That includes the pipelines behind our SLA scorecards, the real time scan data powering exception detection, the carrier performance analytics broken down by route and day of week, the AI assistant that surfaces problems before anyone has to go looking for them, and the agentic AI workflows that take repetitive operational tasks off the team’s plate.
This is a technical role on the product team. You will sit with product and engineering, contribute to decisions about what we build and why, and then build it. The role lives at the intersection of data engineering, AI, and product, and it is a strong fit for someone who enjoys building, thinks carefully about what actually moves the business forward, and has the product instincts to tell the difference between analytics that look impressive and analytics that change a decision.
SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITY
• Unified data lake: Design, build, and operate the data lake that consolidates feeds from our TMS, carrier connections, scan data, and warehouse systems. The integrations themselves are already in place, so your focus is on ingestion, modeling, storage, quality, and the architectural choices that allow this to scale.
• SLA and performance analytics: Own the pipelines and scorecards that show how every carrier, lane, and service level is actually performing, with the ability to slice by route, day of week, and time of day.
• Real time exception detection: Turn the scan feed into usable signal. Own the detection logic that flags delays, misroutes, and at risk shipments early enough that the team can actually do something about them.
• AI assistant: Build and evolve the proactive intelligence layer that surfaces problems, patterns, and opportunities without anyone needing to ask. This is one of the core differentiators of the product, and you will drive how it is designed and where it goes next.
• Agentic AI for task automation: Design and ship agentic workflows that take routine operational work off the team, from chasing down exceptions, to drafting carrier communications, to triggering the right follow up action when a shipment goes sideways. The goal is an operations team that spends its time on judgment calls rather than on clicks.
• Internal tools for the team: Build the internal tooling that our own team uses every day to move faster, from automation for recurring operational workflows, to lightweight interfaces on top of the data lake, to the utilities that take friction out of how the team actually works.
• A voice on the product team: As a technical member of the product team, you will help shape what we build in your area, in what order, and what good looks like, working directly with leadership and, where useful, with customers.
BACKGROUND REQUIRED
• 7+ years of professional software or data engineering experience, with meaningful time spent owning systems end to end in production.
• Hands on experience designing and operating data lakes or warehouses at scale, including ingestion, modeling, and storage decisions, using tools in the modern data stack such as Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Airflow, or equivalents.
• Strong programming skills in Python and SQL, and comfort working across batch and streaming data systems.
• Working expertise with modern AI tooling, including LLM APIs, retrieval, and the patterns used to put AI features reliably into production.
• Demonstrated product sense. You can read a request, understand what the person is actually trying to accomplish, and push back when the ask does not match the goal.
• A track record of working well with high autonomy, deciding when to raise a question and when to simply make the call.
• Bachelor’s degree, field flexible.
NICE TO HAVE
• Experience in logistics, supply chain, or another domain with complex operational data such as carrier APIs, EDI feeds, or scan events.
• Production experience shipping AI or LLM powered features, including agentic systems and the work around evaluation, retrieval, and reliability.
