Provides supervised, hands-on exposure to cybersecurity operations within IT NOG. Supports day-to-day security monitoring and operational tasks that are essential to maintaining Fairfax Water’s security posture. Supports staff by updating and validating security related documentation. The position is designed to build foundational cybersecurity skills while assisting full-time staff with routine security activities. Monitor security dashboards/logs/alerts under supervision to identify anomalous activity
Assist with triage of security alerts, escalate findings to FTE staff as appropriate. Review, analyze, and document reported phishing emails and user-reported security incidents. Support vulnerability management activities, including validation of scan results and remediation tracking. Assist with routine security operations such as account reviews, access validation, and endpoint security checks. Help maintain and update security runbooks, playbooks, and standard operating procedures. Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying process gaps and recommending documentation or workflow enhancements.
Working knowledge of Windows Operating Systems and PC hardware.
Working knowledge of iOS Devices – including iPhones and iPads.
Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel PowerPoint, etc.)
Basic Understanding of Computers and Networking, and Cybersecurity.
Effective communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications: Actively pursuing a degree in electronics, mechatronics, electrical engineering, computer science, or related field of study. A+, Security+, Network+ Certification.
