A global freight forwarding company is seeking an associate-level Entry Writer to join their customers brokerage team in Wood Dale, IL. This position is responsible for assisting the licensed import Customs Broker through customs declaration activities and independently coordinating logistics operations to ensure the proper flow of import documentation and communications between the company and government agencies for freight/cargo clearance. Training is provided for company specific workflows.

The ideal candidate will have 3 to 5 years of experience in customs brokerage operations, a strong interest in becoming a licensed Customs Broker in the near future, and strong communication skills with a high degree of professionalism.

*This is a full-time, non-exempt, direct hire, onsite position.


Entry Writer (Freight Forwarding) Duties:

  • Handle customs declaration process including submitting necessary shipping information and documentation to proper government organizations, collaborating with sales departments as necessary
  • Research and provide quotations to customers on demand
  • Coordinate freight logistics flows including collaborating with logistics partners for confirmation of delivery/pickups, troubleshooting logistics issues, booking domestic transportation, tracking freight movement to door, and coordinating pickup/delivery schedules
  • Coordinate billing processes, invoice issuance for air/ocean/trucking departments, and payment confirmation on a daily, weekly, and as needed basis
  • Regularly input shipping contract data, shipment status, freight cost information, etc. in company databases
  • Verify freight charges with PODs and resolve payable discrepancies as they occur
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures
  • Additional duties as assigned


Entry Writer (Freight Forwarding) Ideal Minimum Requirements:

  • Advanced degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or similar is preferred
  • Three (3) to Five (5) years of work experience in customs brokerage
  • Practical knowledge and/or work experience with Microsoft Office, particularly MS Excel
  • Excellent communication skills in written / verbal English and comfortable with frequent cross-departmental communications
  • Mathematics skills in basic algebra and geometry; comfortable with number-heavy work
  • Adaptable with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and deadline driven department
  • This position will not support visa sponsorship or relocation expenses
  • While performing the duties of this job you may be required to intermittently sit, stand, walk, lift up to 10 pounds, climb stairs, use hands to handle or feel paperwork and interact with a computer, talk and hear. You may also be required to use close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
