WHY THIS ROLE


The Cranford NJ customs team is scaling to handle growing transatlantic and European consolidation volumes coming into Port Newark and the JFK air cargo gateway. The Customs Entry Writer sits inside the brokerage desk, drafting and filing entries for named accounts across UK consumer goods, premium food & drink, fashion, pharma, and aerospace components.

Forwarding strength sits in UK-US transatlantic, European ocean consolidation, and transatlantic air express. The US HQ has been in Cranford NJ since 2004, handling customs entries across Port Newark, EWR, JFK, and bonded movements.


WHAT YOU'LL DELIVER


  • Draft and file CBP 7501 entries for air, ocean, and bonded shipments via Port Newark, EWR, and JFK.
  • HTS classification, valuation, country-of-origin declarations, and duty / tax calculations.
  • ISF filings, AMS/ACE integration, and entry summaries within deadline.
  • FDA, USDA, TSCA, FWS, and other PGA (Partner Government Agency) filings per commodity.
  • CBP inquiry responses, CF-28/29 notices, and post-entry amendments.


WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR


  • 3+ years US customs entry writing experience.
  • Strong HTS classification skills across at least two product groups.
  • Working command of ACE, ABI, and one entry platform (CargoWise, Descartes, Kewill, or equivalent).
  • Understanding of FDA / USDA / TSCA / FWS PGA filings, ISF timing, and bond types (single entry vs continuous).
  • Entry accuracy record: error rate <1%.


This role writes customs entries for imports across air, ocean, and bonded movement. Candidates from export-only, freight forwarding ops, or trucking brokerage backgrounds are welcome if you can evidence hands-on entry writing and US customs compliance fundamentals.


WHAT'S ON OFFER


Base $58,000 – $75,000 depending on experience and license progress. Annual bonus up to 8% of base, tied to entry accuracy, volume, and CBP response turnaround. License support: if you're studying for the US Customs Broker License (CHB), the business covers exam fees, study materials, and dedicated study time. Hybrid work model. Three days per week at the Cranford office, two days remote. Standard hours with cover expected around peak arrival windows at Port Newark and EWR.


Progression track to Senior Entry Writer within 18-24 months, then to Licensed Customs Broker or Customs Manager for anyone completing the CHB. The Cranford team is 14 strong and reports into the US Customs Manager, with direct lines into the Southampton trade compliance HQ.
